Pushpagiri Trek Details

The Pushpagiri mountain trail stars at the Pushpagiri Sanctuary checkpoint. There are two routes through which you can trek here: the Pushpagiri and the Kukke trails.

Depending on your trekking ability, choose either route or do both over a period of two days. No matter which route you take, both trails pass through an interesting terrain and are scenic.

While trekking at Pushpagiri, take precautions while passing through the forests and rocky terrain. If you are trekking during the monsoon, be careful of bugs and leech inside the dense forest.

The Pushpagiri Trek Experience:

Difficulty Level:

Anyone with moderate trekking skills will find the trek comfortable for most parts of the trail. A few parts of the trek can be a bit of a challenge, but they are not impossible to scale through.

How to reach Pushpagiri from Bangalore:

1. There are a couple of routes that you can take from Bangalore to get to Pushpagiri. The quickest one is via the State Highway 8 and the National Highway 75, the journey by road will take you around 5 hours to complete.
2. You can also take a KSRTC bus from Majestic Bus stand to Somwarpet and from there hire a taxi to Pushpagiri. Negotiate a fair price before confirming your journey with the driver.

Pushpagiri Weather Conditions:

1. Monsoon in Pushpagiri begins from the month of June and goes on till mid-September.

2. Winter are from October end to February.

3. Summer starts in March and ends in May.

Pushpagiri Trek Route:

1. If you take the Somwarpet Route, it is busy and popular.

2. Starting from Somwarpet, this route passes through waterfalls, forests and lush green meadows.

3. The second route is the Kukke Subramanya Route, which also leads to Pushpagiri Hill. 

4. It is a bit longer than the Somwarpet route, but equally fun.

5. From the route, you can see the stunning Western Ghats and pass through meadows with beautiful flowers.

Best Time for Pushpagiri Trek:

If you really want to have a good time trekking in Pushpagiri, it is best to trek during the months of September and November. The climate is excellent for trekking and the monsoons have just stopped, brightening up the surroundings with a bright green hue.

Pushpagiri Trek - Two Day Itinerary:

Day 0

1. Depart Bangalore at 7 pm, picking up passengers at designated stops along the way.
2. Reach Somwarpet by 12 am and rest for the night.

Day 1

3. Wake up early and reach the check post at the Somwarpet Wildlife Range by 8 am and begin the trek after a briefing session by the group leader.
4. The trek starts at 8.30 am and you reach Pushpagiri Peak by 11 am.
5. Have breakfast at the peak and then do a bit of sightseeing. Spend about an hour at the peak.
6. Make the climb down to base at 12 pm and reach the Somwarpet check post by 2.30 pm.
7. Have lunch at the check post and then head back to the homestay.
8. Enjoy a few outdoor games and entertainment at the homestay.
9. Go to bed and get a good night's sleep.

Day 2

10. The next day, wake up by 9 am
11. Have a quick breakfast at 9.30 am
12. Immediately leave back for Bangalore to reach by 4 pm.

1. Clothes for two days
2. Insect repellent
3. Moisturizer and sunscreen (optional)
4. A comfortable pair of trekking shoes
5. Toiletries
6. Camera (if you are interested in photography)
7. Energy bars or dry fruits for the way
8. Drinking water for the trek

1. Travelling expenses to the trekking spot and back to Bangalore
2. Meals and accommodation at the homestay

The best time to visit Pushpagiri is between the months of September to November. The weather during this period is amazing and it is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor sports and a holiday in Pushpagiri.

Pushpagiri Map Location:

The journey from Bangalore to Somwarpet is about 250 kilometres. From Somwarpet, it is a 20-minute ride by road to Pushpagiri.



3 Things to do on a Pushpagiri Trek:

1. Visit Pushpagiri Sanctuary: The Pushpagiri Sanctuary is a great place to explore wildlife and interesting trees. Spot animals such as deer, langurs and sambar deer.

2. Sightseeing: On the trail to the top of Pushpagiri Hill catch stunning sights of nature, in particular the Western Ghats. You will also get to see beautiful flowers blooming on the plains of the mountains.

3. Photography: The Pushpagiri trekking trail gives you plenty of opportunity for photography. Click pictures of beautiful landscapes and the stunning and serene peak.

Safety Measures:

1. Follow the instructions of the trek leader.
2. Wear comfortable shoes for the trek.
3. Carry enough drinking water to keep you hydrated on the trek,
