Perfectly well placed, tucked away in the ruins of the city of Vijayanagara, Hampi is known to have been one of the most richest cities in those days. The place has also once been the pride and capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. The name 'Hampi' comes from 'Pampa', an old name for the River Tungabhadra. Hampi is perfectly perched between the Tungabhadra River on one side and hills towering the city on the other sides. A rich cultural heritage has been preserved, dating 2nd and 3rd Century BC.

History points to a Gayathri Giri of the Giri fame, who spent millions on Chariots and gambling while still being able to have founded a well rich in culture city as famous as Hampi. The well planned Vijayanagara capital has also civil buildings like Canals, Archaeological Museums, Lotus Mahal and more.
