The stadium serves as the home ground to I-League club, Pune FC and has played host to many matches for the Indian National team.
The stadium is situated in Balewadi, Mahalunge, Pune. It is about 14-15 km from Pune. The complex was built in 1994 and was a first time host for 1994 National Games. It has continued with this tradition and has become world class hosting ground for 2008 commonwealth youth games, 2008 world junior table tennis circuit, 2011 and 2015 Rollball world cup, 2009 FIBA under 16 championship for women and the list is endless.
The Balewadi stadium offers great facilities and infrastructure for sports enthusiasts. Besides outdoor track and field stadium, it has many others facillties for Tennis, Badminton, Basket Ball, Swimming, Football, Hockey, Shooting Range, Weightlifting, and Wrestling . It is open to all with a membership facility. The Athletic stadium has a seating capacity of 20000 people with flood lights and 8 lane track.
The complex also houses fitness and sports science centre.
