Poets Ecstasy- August Poetry Slam
Poetry Slam was introduced in 1984 at the Get Me High Lounge, Chicago, USA. Poetry Slam is a competitive art of performance poetry. It emphasises on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they're saying and how they're saying it. The poets are judged by a panel or the members of the audience.
ArtRefurbish organises poetry slams often and mostly in Delhi-NCR. Their Poetry Slam at Anti-Social, Hauz Khas Village in the afternoon of August 13, was a heaven for those who write/perform poetry and equally so for those who find peace in listening to classy poetry.
The August poetry slam witnessed 22 top poets who had sent their entries to Art Refurbish and got selected to perform their poems in front of a large and poetry-centric audience of Delhi.
It kicked off with a poet performing a bold poem on transgender and spreading the word that Delhi is ready for LGBT community, after which a well-known poet ‘Angana Sinha Ray’ performed a beautiful poetry ‘Katyayini’ reinforced by a soft-music. The poets recited their poems in English as well as in Hindi, every poet had his/her own genre of poetry which resulted in witnessing almost every style of poetry. The poetry slam was divided into two halves with a 20 minute break in between for networking / lunch.
ArtRefurbish also showcased their postcards, with beautiful quotes, that were available for sale. After the official event, the registrations for the open-mic were invited. And around 10-12 more poets registered their names for a chance to perform on stage. The open mic slot was equally intense and added more zest to the afternoon. The event wrapped up around 5:30pm, exceeding the official time by 60 minutes- But good times are always longer the better.
ArtRefurbish is planning to host a series of poetry slams and workshops in various colleges of Delhi over the last two weeks of August. In that line, ArtRefurbish is hosting a Poetry Open Mic at Amity University, Noida on August 22, 2016.
