These show hosts of fireflies setting the night ablaze with their glow as a process of breeding along these regions. These fireflies are mostly found in dense forest spots that surround hill ranges in Maharashtra. What's even better? These spots are easily accessible from both Mumbai and Pune and work for quick escapes for a weekend getaway.

1. Fireflies Camping with Live Band at Bhandardara


The event lets the campers explore the forest area around the lovely Bhandardara to catch sights of fireflies in the wild. There will be live music that they get to enjoy, over some delicious food and fun games. Campers are allowed to bring their own booze to the site for the night. 2. Fireflies Trek at Kondana Caves


The ancient rock-cut Kondana Caves, attract a lot of tourists throughout the year, and is around 15 Kms from Karjat. The trail up the Kondana Caves show some stunning sights of Fireflies during this season, making it one of the best Fireflies Trek experience around Mumbai and Pune. 3. Fireflies Trek at Sandhan Valley


The Sandhan Valley trek is one of the toughest treks along the region that attracts avid trekkers, in search of adventure. Sandhan valley is fondly known as the great canyon of Sahyadri mountain ranges. During the pre-monsoons, there is a high possibility that the Fireflies find favourable conditions to breed along the forest patches around the Sandhan Valley, hence it is one of the popular spots for a Fireflies Trek this season.

4. Fireflies Trek at Rajamchi & Kondana Caves


Rajmachi has always been one of the most popular spots for Fireflies Trek. Night treks along Rajmachi is scenic and makes for a perfect trekking adventure. The forest patches surrounding the Hill Fort makes favourable conditions for Fireflies to breed during the pre-monsoons, and is one of the most easily accessible Fireflies Trek zone from both Mumbai and Pune. The trekkers are also allowed to explore Kondana Caves after trekking along the trails of Rajmachi.

5. Fireflies Trek at Purushwadi


Purushwadi is also a well known location where trekkers can catch the sight of fireflies during the the pre-monsoon Fireflies Trek. The campsite here is convenient for the campers to rest after trailing along on a Fireflies Trek in the night. The event will also have some fun campsite activities and delicious food. Purushwadi is a perfect weekend getaway that encourages rural tourism and works for a fun Fireflies Camping event!

6. Fireflies Trek at Ratangad


The rich heritage of the lovely rustic hill fort at Ratangad, has been a great spot for tourists and adventure lovers over the years. The trek up the fort is moderately difficult, that scales upto a 4200 ft. The trial shows some stunner views. The forest patches that lay undisturbed around the village of Ratanwadi along the dam, are favorable for Fireflies to breed around this time of the year. Trekking up to the fort lets the trekkers spot hosts of fireflies along the way, making for a great Fireflies Trek experience that s accessible from both Mumbai and Pune. While on the Fireflies Trek at Ratangad, one can also explore the rock cut caves along the way uphill.
