This Independence day you need to get off the comfort of sitting at home and watching the parade because these events are going to be much more awesome than that! While we still pay our respects to the nation our Freedom Fighters, here are some great ways to spend this day, quitting that social media and getting off your couch!

1. Kite Flying on Independence Day

Here's a great way to bring back a little bit of childhood nostalgia of enjoying a National Holiday with some colourful kite-flying session while also remembering the freedom we have been enjoying as a nation. It's not easy, if you think of it, thanks to a busy life that doesn't involve kite flying any time of the day. But this event is going to help get yourselves fresh air and a little away from social media! Kites and thread will be provided at the venue.

2. Mayavadi Independence Day Trekking, Camping and Volunteering

Spend this Independence day, trekking up the lovely Mayavadi at Channagiri. This place is one of the highest peaks in Karnataka at an altitude of 1400 meters. A drive away from Bangalore of about 55 Kilometers will let you reach Mayavadi Organic Farm from where the trek starts. While on trek you will get to catch sights of small temples and a stone water pool. What better way than a day out among the hills and loveliest views?

3. Freedom Jam in Bangalore

Celebrate Freedom with some great live music by various bands in the city. Freedom Jam, as always has decided to bring the roof down in the city this Independence day. 3 different venues, 3 different days, one massive music event of the year. Freedom Jam will start on August 13th. August 15th will have a 12 hour performance by various bands presenting various genres of music. This year, 63 odd bands are expected to show up to rock the town.

When: 13th, 14th and 15th August 2016

4. HSR 10K Freedom Run

Make the day worth every minute by hitting the Freedom Run with Bangalore. The fourth edition of HSR 10K Freedom Run is here! The objective is an awareness campaign for a greener and healthier Bangalore. Kaagaz Foundation has time and again organised great events that create awareness among the crowds in Bangalore. One such event is the Freedom Run 2016. This run is inviting people across Bangalore to join in for a time of understanding the importance of health while we are all still living our busy lives.

5. Dream catcher workshop

What's better that buying a dream catcher? Learning how to make one for yourself! Here's a fun way to spend your long weekend learning how to bring your favourite dream catcher to life. Interesting sessions on techniques to make the perfect dream catcher will let you be your own kind of creative.

6. Hunger Free Nation- 15K Meals

Bangalore is all set to celebrate Independence in it's own way. Bringing back into the picture, a goal to feed a crowd of 15,000 people including children and elderly, a group of enthusiastic team has joined hands to unite for the cause, on 13th August. Anyone can be a part of this event. You could participate as either a donor or a volunteer, helping either with the food supply or distribution. Let's feed Bengaluru, homemade, with love this Independence Day!

7. The Independence Weekend Breakfast Celebration - Urban Solace

8. Independence Day Ride - 2016

Riders of Bangalore is all set to host one of the most happening events in town this 15th, August. As a way of paying respect to prominent freedom fighters in the past, bikers in the city are gathering for a peaceful Freedom Ride. Uniting for a cause of showing unity in diversity, the rally starts at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
