The Humming Tree is a performance venue and restro-bar situated in the heart of Indira Nagar. Set up in 2013, they are known for live music gigs, open mic nights, delicious cuisine and wicked drinks. Unscene organised a night of enthralling music to relive the spirit of metal with powerhouse bands Vidyut, Albatross and Threinody.Vidyut is an old-school thrash and death metal band from Chennai. Formed in 2009, drummer Bhaskar and guitarist Arun got together in a serious act to create some metal music. Soon the band got a vocalist, Deep and bassist Anny who were later replaced with growler Sumo and bassist Jeff. Vidyut’s similar interests on patriotism, socialism and aggressive philosophies helped them create the sound of artistic reality. Now the quartet is working on their powerful debut album titled “Slice The Remorseless” which is to be released soon.Born in the genre of heavy metal is the band Albatross from Mumbai. The band was formed in 2008 as a solo project by bassist Riju, combining his love for literature with the bone-crushing sound of metal. With influences from bands such as Megadeth, Judas The Priest, Iron Maiden and similar artists, like-minded musicians helped complete the line-up of Albatross. The band released critically acclaimed “Dinner Is You”, a concept EP based on cannibalism and Kuru disease. The quintet has also done a successful tour in Australia and has shown great support to legendary bands such as Kreator and Wolf. Albatross have released their recent album “Fear From The Skies”. Adam Khan, a student of humanities at Christ says “I found out about the gig on Facebook. It’s so primal and so much more meaningful, impressive and layered than most other types of music,” says Adam. “I absolutely loved Albatross and their approach to song writing and maintaining the classic rhythm,” he added.
Threinody is a thrash metal band from Bangalore. The band’s name is derived from a Greek word meaning ‘lament for the dead’ or a dead march. The band was formed in 1996 when guitarist Premik, drummer Shreyas and bassist and vocalist Siddharth got together to jam, inspired by their favourite classic metal bands of the 70s and thrash metal bands of the 80s. The band’s dynamic music and brooding mood shifts is combined with lyrics that deal with life, solitude, war, death and reincarnation. Even though Threinody was on hiatus from 2007-2012, they are renowned for their intense, captivating shows. Presently, the band is working on their upcoming full-length album. Diksha, an avid music listener says “I loved the music here tonight because you feel the rush like no other genre. And I am also grateful for the fact that Humming Tree supports various artists and has introduced me to a lot of new music,” she added.
