10 Workshops Everyone Should Sign For In Bengaluru Poetry Festival

Bangalore's first festival dedicated to poetry invites poets from everywhere. The two day event is going to include poetry workshops, live poetry reading sessions, poetry performances, open mic sessions and much more. Performers, readers, poets and poetry lovers in general get to share a common platform and celebrate their love for the art form. A few workshops are going to be organised for adults as well as children.

Here is your definitive list of workshops being organised in the festival-



1. Writing your first song with words, pen and a tune to sing along

The children will be given a few word prompts and a chorus to work with in the beginning. After they write up a few stanzas, they can sing their songs to popular tunes accompanied by a guitar. The workshop will be conducted by Aparna Raman, the founder and creative director of TImbuktoo Young Authors.

2. Lets Paint a poem: With colors, crayons and imagination

Children will get a chance to play with their imagination and work in groups. Each group will be assigned a poem and the kids will use different colors to bring out the story through a painting. This workshop intended to help children visualize poems will be facilitated by Leon James who has been conducting workshops for children across India on clay making, sculpting and mask making.

3. Lets make a poetic image : Theatre in poetry

Theatre practitioner and writer Deepka Arwind invites children to join her in a fun filled workshop meant to help them connect poetry with theatre.

4. Heritage in a poem: Lets have fun with history

Children will get to create poems with Vikramjit Singh Rooprai, the heritage activist and poet from Delhi, and learn history in an entertaining way. The aspects of Indian history and heritage will taught to the kids through poetry.

5. Rain and Rhyme

International journalist and author Saakshi Singh will introduce young ones to poetry and how to play with rhyming words.

6. Found Poetry: Where Art and Poetry collide by Mrunalini Giri

Found Poetry is a form of poetry where words, phrases or whole sentences are taken from other passages and re-worded to create some poetic magic. The facilitator is a self taught poet and artist. The workshop will also focus on found poetry and drawing as a means of stress release.

8. Poetry and Rock Management by Simon Napier-Bell

Rock manager, director and author Simon Napier-Bell hopes to impart his wisdom on the commercial value of poetry. Students of this workshop will get to learn how the music industry works and how poetry work as song lyrics.

9. Discourses in Poetry by Sudhir Ranjan Singh

This workshop intends to engage a discussion between young and aspiring poets and acclaimed Hindi poet and critic Sudhir Ranjan Singh. People who opt for this workshop get to understand poetry through traditional and contemporary approaches.
