Mandvi beach is the most popular beach in Ratnagiri because of its proximity to the town. It is a black sand beach and offers a panoramic view with the Ratnadurga fort to its west. The fort has a unique structure in the form of horseshoe 1000 meters wide and 1300 meters long. It is of historical significance as it was once a strong hold of the Maratha Empire later to be occupied by Mughals.
Since it is surrounded by Arabian Sea it gives a splendid view of the sunset and the sea. Pawas beach and Ganpatipule beach are two other great beaches which serve as picnic spots near Ratnagiri.
The latter one is known for its clean silvery white sand and for the lagoon it houses. You can also try your hands at balancing a kayak here. You must also visit Bhatya beach and Pandre beach. Ratnagiri is also famous for Alphonso mango. This place boasts of producing genuine Alphonsos. The district has around 80,000 hectares dedicated just for Alphonso cultivation.
Ratnagiri also abounds in temples and historical monuments including Sri Devi Bhagwati Mandir, Jaigad Fort, Tilak Ali museum, Thibaw point, Swayambhu Ganpati Temple and many more places.
