Matheran is one of the most scenic hill stations between Mumbai and Pune. At an altitude of 2,625 feet, this place enjoys cooler and less humid climate during the summer, making it one of the top destinations for trekking near Mumbai for the people in cities close by like Mumbai and Pune. It is also one of the smallest hill stations in India. Matheran is situated along the Western Ghats range at an elevation of around 2,625 feet above sea level.
The name Matheran typically means ‘forest on the forehead’. This region is also an eco-sensitive region. The hill station has some of the best view-points along the way. The Panorama Point gives an absolutely stunning 360 degree view. Neral is also one of the small towns near Matheran.
There are parsi bungalows around the area that makes the stay a great experience for a weekend getaway. The quaint little hill station has also managed to preserve old british-style architecture. The area was declared eco-sensitive. In fact it could also easily be called as a sanatorium by itself.
How To Reach:
The hill station is well connected by both rails and roadways. The nearest Railway Station is the Neral Station. There are several trains from Neral to Matheran. These rides are scenic and are popular among tourists.
There are also buses to Dodhani from where it’s a matter of an hours trek to Matherans Sunset Viewpoint.

Visit view points like Alexander Pt., Rambag Pt, Little Chowk Pt, Big Chowk Pt, One Tree Hill Pt, Belvedere Pt, Olympia Race Course, Porcupine Pt (Sun Set Pt), Panorama Point (Sun Rise Pt) and more.
View points like monkey and echo, steep cliffs, deep ravines; and squirrel are also a must visits.
