About Alibaug

Renowned for its beaches, clear water and pristine surroundings, Alibaug is a popular coastal town in Konkan region. Located in the Raighad district of Maharasthra, Alibaug is also home to many historical and intricate temples, which interest the tourists and the ultimate fun weekend getaway.

The USP of Alibaug is its beach with dense coconut groves. A lazy stroll along the sea shore refreshes your mind, body and soul and making you forget the hectic and monotonous life of Mumbai. Apart from the Alibaug beach there are several other beaches near Alibaug which you must head to. You can indulge in water sports and activities at Nagaon beach as it is safe for all kinds of activities as in swimming, boating due to flat surface. The beach also acts as the central place for surrounding other beaches like Murud, Kashid, Akshi, Alibaug, Kihim and Mandva. Another tourist attraction in Alibaug is the Konkan Fort which was built by Maratha leader Shivaji in 1680.

The fort has a height of 25 feet with the carvings of animals and birds on the fort walls. The fort despite being standing beside a saltwater body, much to the surprise has a fresh-water well inside its premises. A temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, built by Raghoji Angre in the year 1759, is also present in the Fort premises and is still worshipped by the fishermen from the area. The fort also has temples dedicated to Mahishasura and Goddess Padmavati.

About 13 kms away from Alibaug is the Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple which is more popular as Shiva temple. It is located on a hill at an altitude of 900 feet so you have to climb some 5000 odd steps to reach this temple. The scenic beauty around this temple is absolutely astounding. There also a Hanuman temple located with the premises of Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple.
