Ratangad (Marathi: ) is a fort in Ratan Wadi, Maharashtra, India, overlooking the locale of Bhandardara, one of the oldest artificial catchment area. The fort is about 2000 years old.

Ratangad has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called 'Nedhe' or 'Eye of the Needle'. The fort has four gates Ganesh, Hanuman, Konkan and Trimbak. It also has many wells on the top.[2]

Ratangad was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle. The base village Ratanwadi has an Amruteshwar temple which is famous for its carvings. The fort is origin for the river Pravara/Amrutvahini. The Bhandardara dam(arthar dam) is built on this river.

The main attraction at Ratanwadi is the Amruteshwar temple dating back to the Hemadpant Era - roughly from the eighth century.

The base village Ratanwadi is approached by boat from Bhandardara. By boat, it is a 6 km journey and further, it is a 4 km walk till Ratanwadi.

Trek schedule: 

Saturday: Day 0
10.30 pm: Gather at Shivajinagar
11.00 pm: Bus will Start from Pune

Sunday: Day 1
4.30 am: Reach at the base village (Ratanwadi)
5.00 am: Introduction and instructions
5.30 am: Start the trek
7.00 am: Breakfast
9.00 am: Reach at the top

12.30 am: Start descend
3.00 pm: Reach the base
Get freshen up and Lunch
4.00 pm: Start towards Pune
5.00 pm: Tea and Snacks
10.00 pm: Reach Pune

Travel from Pune to Pune (Pune Participants)
Breakfast, lunch, tea, and snack

Trek cost excludes:
Dinner on 7th Aug 2016
Bottled drinking water
Personal Expenses
Insurance of any kind
Medical hospitalization, evacuation, and related expenses
Anything not mentioned in ‘Trek cost includes’

Things to carry:
1. Two water bottles ( 2 ltr at least)
2. Rain cheater
3. Ready to eat food (Biscuits, palm cakes, thepla)
4. Polythene bag to keep wet cloths
5. Extra pair of cloths
6. Good trekking/ sports shoes
7. Torch (Must)
8. Personal medicines (if any)
9. Cap, sunglasses, sun cream or cold cream, camera (Optional)



1. The toilet facility will not be available.

2. Consuming liquor or any kind of Alcoholic substance is prohibited. Carrying any kind of substance that's illegal is not allowed. Smoking is strictly not allowed. Anybody found smoking or consuming alcoholic drinks will be expelled from the event without a refund.

Other Conditions & Indemnity:

I am aware that participating in adventure sports like kayaking, cycling, trekking, climbing, and rappelling has some inherent risks of illness, injury or death. This may be a result of the negligence of others, myself, forces of nature or other agencies knew or unknown. Rescue and medical services may not be able to reach me in time.

I hereby fully assume all risk of illness, injury or death, and the Kayakers, its owners, employees, consultants, agents and associates from all actions, claims or demands from any damages resulting out of my participation in this sporting event. This obligation is binding upon me personally as well as on my heirs, executors, administrators, assigns and all members of my family.

I hereby authorize any medical treatment deemed necessary in the event of any emergency, injury or mishap. I agree to bear all costs of rescue and/or medical services that may be incurred on my behalf.

I recognize that as the provider of services, the Kayakers will operate under a covenant of good faith and fair dealing, but that it may be necessary to terminate any event or adventure excursion due to forces of nature, medical necessities or other reasons. I accept their right to take such actions for the safety of all participants including me.

I understand that though precautions will be taken to provide a safe and enjoyable experience, there can be no guarantee of absolute safety against illness, injury and/or accident and that there are grave and unpredictable elements of risk in any adventure, sport or activity associated with the outdoors.

I agree that any film or photographs of me as a participant becomes the property of the Kayakers and may be used for promotional and commercial purposes.
