Gouache (pronounced as GWASH) is a super versatile opaque painting medium that imitates the properties of both watercolors and oils—to some extent. It can be brushy and watery, or super-graphic. You can control the vibrancy—it can be really brilliant. You can do almost any kind of artwork with gouache. This beginners gouache workshop is taught by professional illustrators Akanksha and Rupam. The workshop will focus on developing skills and applying techniques allowing you to understand and work with gouache paints.
GP101 is divided into two-part weekend workshops, on the 2nd and the 3rd of February, 2019. But it’s not necessary (albeit recommended) to attend both classes. However, since it’s designed to be one extended class, Part 2 is only available for those attending Part 1.
Class Details: Part 1 of the workshop will start with a demonstration allowing you to become familiar with the unique properties of gouache paints. You'll then have plenty of time to practice mixing colors, experimenting paint effects and build confidence using the medium.
In Part 2 we'll move onto painting the ‘deer skull with flowers’ sketch, that we’ll provide you with, using the techniques we've learned; with plenty of hands-on guidance and encouragement from the tutors. By the end of the workshop, you'll have your own gouache painting (yay!) and you’ll be well on your way to do wonders with this awesome painting medium!
You will be given a complete set of materials, including A sheet of Fabriano Artistico Watercolor Paper (smooth surface) A palette with quality gouache paints (an assortment of Winsor & Newton and Pebeo) Brushes, one flat and one round watercolor brushes Water, rags, etc. miscellaneous stuff.
