This relatively unexplored fort is one of the most fascinating treks of the Sahyadri mountains. Padargad was constructed as a watchtower for Ganpati Ghat, that connects Karjat with Bhimashankar. The fort structure has almost disappeared; few water tanks and caves still exist.
What makes Padargad a must-do trek in Sahyadri for all the avid trekkers is the thrill of crossing a few rocky patches and a chimney climb. For the laymen, chimneying is a technique where one uses hands, feet and back to apply opposite pressure on vertical walls and climb upwards. The challenges call for the use of technical skills and equipment- hence, attracting many trekking enthusiasts to Padargad every year.
The efforts to reach the top are rewarded by the breathtaking view of the entire Bhimashankar range- you can also spot Siddhagad, Kothaligad and Bhimashankar from here.
Try to board the first compartment from Karjat side. Missing the train means missing the trek, so please be on time.
