Gorakhgad is located in Thane District falling under Murbad Taluka. Dehri is the name of the base village which is 10 kms away from Murbad. Trek to Gorakhgad is majorly a Jungle trail. Once reaching the base where the steps begin, the trek becomes more exciting. As there are no railings or support to climb the steps, it increases the adrenaline which satisfies Adventure Enthusiasts. After reaching the caves, Gorakhgad offers breath-taking views of the Jungle, the Valley & Machchindragad. One can also witness water cisterns near the caves. Going ahead there is a ridge to go top of the Gorakhgad. There is a Temple of Mahadev facing a Nandi and views of Siddhagad, Ahupe Ghat & Jivdhan is mesmerizing.

The history of Gorakhgad is based on Master and his disciple. Gorakhnath was Master or Guru of Machindranath. Gorakhnath used to meditate in the caves for his penance. Apart from this, Gorakhgad was used as a Watch Tower and used as an occasional place to stay for the Maharajas of the bygone era.

Meet at Kalyan railway station by 7 am as we will head to Dehri Village by transfer vehicle, base village of Gorakhgad Fort.

Food First

We will reach the base village Dehri around 9 am. Before we begin the trek, let us fill our stomach with the local breakfast and hot tea.

Gorakhgad, we are coming!

We will begin our trek to Gorakhgad fort by 10 am, exploring the Jungle and helping our fellow trekkers along the way.

Wow, we are here!

Reach top around 12:30 pm. We will explore the caves, water cisterns, enjoy the sight of the valley and Machindragad. We will start to descend at around 1 pm.

Lovely Rural Lunch

We will reach the base village around 2:30 pm. Enjoy the delicious lunch made by the villagers as we rejuvenate our body and mind.

What an Experience, Mumbai!

We will head back to Kalyan after lunch in our transfer vehicle by 3:30 pm as we share our experience of the trek with our fellow trekkers.

Cancellation and Refund applicable on the tour cost:

  • If cancellation is done prior to 15 days of outing 75% will be refunded.
    If cancellation is done prior to 10 days of outing 50% will be refunded.
    After that, no refund will be provided.

Things To Carry:

  • At least 3 litres of drinking water
    Photo ID card
    Good trekking shoes
    Extra clothes (optional) 
    Torch with extra batteries



  • In mountains & jungles, smoking attracts honeybees and one has to face dangerous "honeybee attack" where survival of the person is difficult, hence smoking is strictly prohibited.
    Drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited.
    Leader's decision will be final and binding.

    Please do not carry handbags or Jholas or Sling bags on treks.

- Yes, good trekking shoes are compulsory.

Really loved this trek.. while going in , the uphill task is a little daunting.

The woods are real thick at some places and ambiance is quite refreshing.

The climb is difficult at some places as there are not well constructed steps.

However, some parts up the fort are steep and takes a challenging climb.

The paths are streams of either bogs or mossy rocks -- each having their own fun hazards.

But that is what keeps the trek natural and exciting.

There are pretty white crabs in the stream-paths -- very interesting.

The trip to top was awesome.

The strong breeze blowing at the top quickly dries off the sweat from the climb too.

This was the week of onslaught of the monsoon, so it was amazing warm monsoon rain and as we got closer there was also mist and fog.

It was green and wet all over.

The view of the surrounding countryside from the top is simply breathtaking. Well worth the climb up.

The fort is in ruins and makes a beautiful place for pictures..

The greenery just added to the awesomeness. the view from top is gorgeous..

There is nothing much to see atop the fort except some water cisterns and the thumbs up point.

The shape of the hill-top is fascinating. It replicates your mood giving you a thumbs up when you finish a couple of tough climbs,

but also taking the opportunity of showing a ""up yours"" when you're struggling.

From the top you can really appreciate the control this fort would have given the incumbent in seasons like this.

Really loved the time spent on top.

There is nothing much to see at the top of the fort except the surroundings.

However, we were treated to a spectacular view from the top.

It indeed feels great once we have reached the top.

But the moment we reached the top, clouds began moving in and all of a sudden it just started pouring..

The sudden change was indeed welcome.

But due to the rains, the path down had become super slippery..

Coming down was difficult in the bad patches due to steepness of the rocky roads.

My research had dismissed the climb as an ""easy"" one: I can attest that in the monsoon rain and fog it is definitely close to the top rating on difficulty.

But this shouldn't daunt you since you're likely to be surrounded

by singing dancing dare-devil fellow trekkers in this season.

There is a small bird sanctuary just at the base.

We were treated to the sights of peacocks and a few little rabbits.

All is well that ends well. It was worth the while, and the victory of surmounting the difficult is always sweet.

Overall Experience was amazing...Simply wow... cannot get over with the great experience...totally spellbound by the beauty of the place...

never felt so close to nature especially after the concrete jungle that is Mumbai

The initial climb is a tough one, the middle is a ridge -- a reward with great views.

The climb is steep but on the bright side very short ( barely 3 kms).

However I feel that this trek does offer a great break from busy and polluted citylife.

In conclusion, trekking up Karnala is a fun and enriching experience.

Thanks to SSA for this beautiful memorable experience... Team leaders were very polite and helpful...The food was provided just like ghar ka khana... Fellow trekkers were so good and friendly... really enjoyed...Once again Thank you SSA....
