Every fourth Monday, 7.00 p.m. ======= More than nine years since we did our first open mic at Prithvi, and eight since we started doing them every month, the city's longest-running open mic. Thank you for your support! ======= The short version: you + your writing + two minutes at the microphone. Entry Free. The longer version: * The rules: - Works performed can be in English, Hindi, Marathi and/or Urdu. - You must perform only your own writing. - Genres: No restriction. Poetry, monologues (including stand-up comedy), songs (only your lyrics, remember), it’s all good. - You can perform ONE piece for a maximum of TWO MINUTES. - Only solo or duo performances; no groups please. Duos can only perform collaborative works authored by both performers. - Names will be called at random from the first 25 to register, Your name will be called once. If you don’t get to the microphone in 10 seconds, you lose your slot. - Your time starts the moment you come to the microphone - You can recite, declaim, shout, you can sit, stand or lie down; you can dance, turn a cartwheel, play a musical instrument, or scratch your back while standing on your head, as long as you perform your words. - You get the use of the microphone. No other arrangements will be made for your performance. If you want to carry a prop, or a musical instrument (acoustic only), please do so. Note that any set-up time counts towards your two-minute limit. - If you exceed two minutes, you will be told, and you must leave the microphone immediately. - Prohibited: Foul language, explicit sexual imagery, slander, anything that flouts the laws of India. - Dress code: No nudity. Yes, you can use costumes and make-up if you like. * If you want a slot: - There will be up to 25 slots of up to 2 minutes each. - You must be physically present to register. There will be a whiteboard near the microphoneL write your name against any of the 25 numbers. Only the first 25 can be sure of a slot. You can put your name down if there are already 25 names listed, and IF there is time, you will get a slot. - Slots will be provided immediately, on a first come, first served, and cannot be carried over to the next Open Mic. - if you have any doubts about the appropriateness of your work, please ask the host (which will be Manisha, Annie, or Peter). * Conditions: There are no formal prizes, just the opportunity to perform to an audience, and earn its acclaim. Oh yes, if we, and/or the audience likes your work, you get a Suleimani Chai from the Café. You will not be reimbursed expenses, and will not be paid any fee or honorarium. You retain ownership of your work, but by perfroming, you give the Prithvi Theatre and Caferati the right to display your work, or photographs or recordings of your performance, at the Prithvi Theatre Café, and on their websites, should they so choose, with attribution to you, but with no payment. Should you wish to be excluded from being photographed or recorded, please inform the audience of this. Any photographs or recordings that Prithvi Theatre or Caferati make will only be used to promote the Open Mic, Prithvi Theatre or Caferati. For those of you in Madras, Poetry with Prakriti, is scheduled to take place this year between the 29th November and 14th of December, 2016. It is a two-week-long festival of poetry being held in Chennai to coincide with the famed Chennai season.

This year the festival will be featuring 29 eminent and emerging poets each of whom will present four different readings of their poems to a small and intimate audience at several venues in the city. - You must perform only your own writing.

- Please show the text of what you plan to perform to the moderator, and/or describe your performance. This is not about censorship; it is to guard against infringement of the rules.

Boring but necessary legalities:

- There are no prizes, no performance fees, no reimbursement of expenses.

- You retain ownership of your work, but you give AntiSocial and Caferati permission to photograph or recording your performance for display on their websites, with attribution to you. (Should you wish to be excluded from being photographed or recorded, please inform any photographers / camerapersons / recordists present.)
