What should I pack for Kareri

What should I pack for Kareri

For the trek, you must carry layers, depending upon the season. While even the summer months will require warm layers and light sweaters, the chilly winters demand thermal liners and fleece jackets. Your day-to-day outfit will consist of synthetic track pants, full sleeves T-shirts and a pair of sturdy trekking shoes.

You will need a windproof jacket, woolen gloves, and socks and a balaclava to keep your ears covered. While these will keep you warm and covered, don’t forget to pack your daily essentials. You must keep a water bottle, light snacks, raincoat, torch, and wet wipes always handy.

What is the best time to go?

What is the best time to go?

The summer is a good time to go for the Kareri Lake trek. The trail is green and lush, and the lake is full. However, in the winter, it is a very beautiful trek with snow on the trail and all around.

You’ll also get to see the lake in semi-frozen form. However, it can be very cold during the nights – as low as 2 or 3 degrees Celsius.

How to Reach

How to Reach

By Air:-

The nearest airport is at Gaggal, about 13 kilometers away from Dharamshala. Gaggal airport connects Dharamshala to Delhi via Air India and Spice Jet flights. Tourists from other parts of India would find it easier to take a flight till Chandigarh and book a taxi for their onward journey to Dharamshala, which is about 275 kilometers away.

By Train:-

An overnight train journey is a good option to reach Dharamshala. The nearest major railway station is at Pathankot, 85 kilometers away. There are numerous trains that go to Jammu and Kashmir that stop by in Pathankot. You can take a taxi or bus from Pathankot to reach Dharamshala. There is also a smaller railway station, Kangra Mandir, just 22 kilometers from Dharamshala but none of the important trains halt here.

By Bus:-

Dharamshala is well-connected to Delhi and other parts of North India via a network of state-operated buses as well as private tour operators. The journey is almost 520 kilometers from Delhi.

Most buses stop at the main bus terminal in Lower Dharamshala, but there are also some public Haryana Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses that go all the way to the main square of McLeod Ganj. An overnight journey from Delhi takes about 10 hours
