The goddess keeps the family united and happy; the whore seeks to sow chaos and discontent. The goddess is chaste, the whore is promiscuous. The goddess is the girl you marry, the whore is the one you have as a girlfriend
Goddess or whore: representing women in pop culture as a treasured, pure goddess or a despised, vile whore has dangerous implications for real, human women.

Tobias never backed off though. Every time Asma told him to back off, he came back harder. When she stopped taking his calls, he started sending her text messages proclaiming his love for her. When she would not reply to his messages, he would send a few more, threatening her of the consequences.
Possessed by anger, he pushed Asma away and she landed face down. I stopped in my tracks, horrified at what I had just witnessed.

Some men even go a step further. They assume that just because a woman is divorced, and still in her youth, means she has some unfulfilled sexual desires that can be taken advantage of. She must be readily available and at the slightest drop of a hint from a man, she will be more than willing to go to the bed with him.
From the neighbour's aunt, to well meaning strangers, I have received bizarre advice about how I should lead my life, now that I'm a divorcee and single mom.

"There is no mincing of words and the author gives a loud and clear message that it is never the fault of the victim. She successfully brings the trauma and guilt that victims go through to the forefront, and makes a strong case about shifting the narrative and putting the onus on the sinner rather than the sufferer."

So, yet another victim of the mental demon named depression. Radhika was right in her suicide note. Sometimes the worst place one can be in, is the brain. Our own head.
Due to depression I am killing myself. Radhika wrote. Understanding depression is essential so we can be more supportive to people in its clutches.

Join us at the 6th edition of #BreakingBarriers by Women's Web.

#BreakingBarriers has been a significant launchpad for many women entrepreneurs, professionals and women looking to connect and make impactful networks.

This year's theme is Innovating as Women in Business.

Women often don't have a straight ride upwards - we make our own way against the odds. What keeps us going is Innovation - whether in our businesses, in jobs, or in our own lives, to make things happen - differently.

At Breaking Barriers this year, we will come together to hear from insightful speakers on "how" they innovate, and how we can too. We'll also talk about how as busy women, we can make space for creativity in our own lives and work.

For a family to function smoothly, we need both parents to contribute both on the personal and professional front. If we do not value our women folk, we will lose out a breed of intelligent and conscientious individuals who can bring a lot to the table which will in turn benefit the organization and balance the entire social milieu.
Flexible work hours are necessary for women who manage both family and work responsibilities, making it easier for moms to get back after a break.

All throughout my pregnancy, childbirth, and all the years till now, sacrificing my own self on several grounds has become a norm. A norm that was expected out of me as a mother. You put the child first, the family first, and goddamn forget yourself!
The first thing a would-be mother hears is that she now has to sacrifice a lot for her child. It belittles a mother's love and her being human.

We can drive ourselves crazy asking why someone did something to us or why someone is a certain way and yet, after spending 72 hours desperately calculating all the different probabilities of different possible answers, we cannot be sure of the answer.
All of us have been at that place where all we ask is "Why?" This word consumes our entire being! Here are some ways you can help yourself when you ask why.

Such a shame. Youll be alone when youre old. Once girls marry, they go to the in laws and theyre part of their husbands family. She started welling up thinking about her parents being alone in their old age with no one to take care of them.
Bias against women in India is no news to us! But when was the first time you realised it exists? Many women share their stories!
