Brought to you by Young-scientist Please note that this is a kid-only workshop.
Eligibility: Ages 7 to 10 Class II to V
This week's theme: Plant Chemistry!
Have you wondered what makes the world of Plants very colorful?
They contain Pigments of different colors which are responsible for the physiological functions of the plant. Some of the common pigments are chlorophyll, carotene, and lycopene. The colors depend on several factors like the age of the plant, growing conditions, and genetics of the plant.
We can extract these pigments from the plants using our knowledge of Chemistry and solvents! We can even conduct a race of the pigment molecules, in which they take different times to run across a surface. Chromatography is a popular method used for the separation of mixtures based on the above principle.
This workshop is at the intersection of Biology and Chemistry and will help us learn Physiology of Plants, Color Extraction and Chromatography.

Why Budding Scientist Workshop?
When was the last time your child was taken to a science lab?
Does your school include experiments and demonstrations in their science curriculum at the primary level?
Does your kid enjoy listening to lectures from their science teachers, take notes and study for examinations?
Can science be fun? YES!
This fun science workshop will let your children have a GREAT science experience. Why is this extremely important for children up to Class III?
Research shows that most children would have formed an opinion (positive or negative) about science by the time they reach the age of 7.
We want to create a positive opinion about science in young children, inspire them to enjoy science, and rekindle their curiosity. Our workshop is specifically designed to achieve this, by introducing science in a fun and interactive manner. We will conduct several experiments and demonstrations to encourage your kids to participate and ask questions. This is your chance to be a great parent and provide your child with the opportunities our schools are failing to do.
Young-Scientist (YS) was founded in 2015 with the aim to make science simple and fun for children. It provides science enrichment programs that emphasize visual learning and employs hands-on activities. Young-Scientist has been incorporated as Jeune Scientist Pvt. Ltd.
Are you guys from IIT-Madras?
The YS team comprises of members from a varied background. The founder studied Chemistry in graduate school and built a career in the IT industry spanning two decades.
We have physics majors, chemistry enthusiasts, engineers, science lovers, retired professors, researchers and others in the team - united by our aim to make science accessible to all.
What else do you do besides science workshops?
We organize science camps and run science clubs in schools and apartments. We are passionate about education research and are constantly developing teaching tools, experiment kits, science curriculum, infographics, etc.
We also design YS Exploration Studio - a comprehensive science lab for schools.
I have registered for the workshop/camp. What happens next?
