Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore is of royal origin. The 256-year-old botanical garden was commissioned by Hyder Ali in 1760 and completed by his son Tipu Sultan. Lalbagh houses over 1,800 species of plants and trees, has shaded paths, formal gardens, a glasshouse, a bandstand, a nursery, and a lake that attracts migratory birds.
The botanical garden is enriched with numerous native and the exotic flora of wide-ranging diversity, use and interest. Obtained from various parts of the world since its inception in 1760. Today, nearly 673 genera and 1,854 species of plants are found in Lalbagh. The garden also has trees that are over 100 years old. The collection of plants has made it a veritable treasure house of plants.
