Kalamkari leather puppets and lampshades are the hallmarks of Andrapradesh art and craft. This form of craft is inextricably linked to the state's traditional folk and cultural expression, called leather puppetry. Lamp shades are made by the artisans in colorful designs and patterns. Waterproof colors like brilliant red, green, white, yellow, brown and orange are used on lamp shades. Designs are based on mythological figures, birds and floral patterns. Creating small holes inside the decorative patterns enhances the attraction of the lampshade, which is done using a pogaru (chisel). Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata inspire artisans to create lampshades of attractive shapes and sizes.
