It was a great pleasure to attend the seminar. The subject itself was touchy, and kept a finger on my burning issue. Speaker was good. My suggestion is industry wise guidance to be given to participants. One to one discussion was nice. But, I was not aware that networking session was kept in the evening. As I already booked my train tickets for my return journey to Mumbai, I could not attend this wonderful session. Venue should be near railway station. I think you must start a branch in Mumbai too. I am working in Pharmaceutical Industry and unfortunately Business Leadership Positions are offered to candidates who has grown up from Sales and Business Development. Product Management professionals rarely or does not get Business Leadership Positions. In Pharma, Marketing is given in the hands of Sales who just achieve numbers. Actually, Sales should be given in hands of Marketing (Product Management) for holistically driving of business. Institute must guide on how product management professionals can takes up business/corporate leadership roles. Institute must also brainwash HRD of pharma companies to give business in hands of product management professionals so that product management field/profession can get honor of 'business drivers. I would like to give my own example of how I am stuck up now in my career. I joined Pharma Sales as Medical Representative in 1995. I subsequently become Area Business Manager. Then I got opportunity to become Product Manager for domestic business of Pharma company and subsequently I got opportunity to become Product Manager for International Business of Pharma Company. I grown as Sr. Product Manager, Group Product Manager and now I am Asst. General Manager - International Business of Pharma Company for Emerging Markets Division. From here I want to become General Manager - International Business where I am suppose to be head of International Sales and Marketing both. Recruiters and in interviews of business leadership positions, HRD asks questions to me or product heads "are you directly responsible for sales/BD?" and answer is 'No'. Everything stops there. They want to give Business Leadership positions to candidates who have grown up from Sales/Business Development. Then why people will be inclined to take up Product Management Career. Nobody can aspire for Product Management Career. Why HR is reluctant to give business responsibility to Product Management Heads? What is the end of Product Management career? Can't Product Management professionals become CEO / President of Pharma Company? I think Institute must intervene here to convince HRD Leaders that Product Management professionals are scientific drivers of business unlike sales or BD professionals who just dump goods to achieve their sales target.
