User Experience (UX) is the overall experience you have when you are using or interacting with a product or in a broader sense - a system. If you're running a business or have built a product, someones overall experience with your product or service could very well make the difference between whether they will buy and use it, or more importantly, whether they will come back to buy again or look elsewhere next time.
UX design is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This involves the design of the entire process of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function.
A significant number of industry professionals perceive UX Design more as an art than a science because most aren't aware of the scientific basis of the profession. The purpose of employing a scientific method in the UX profession is to make sure we, as UX Practitioners, have not been misled into thinking we have deduced something which is far from correct during a design process.
