Biopsy of the MC (6 hours)
Fri, 22nd Nov, 10 am to 5 pm

There are people entering the room. Their voices are a soft, excited babble. You stand in the darkness. Unseen, unknown, anonymous. The buzz fades. The lights go out. A spotlight cuts through the dark. A moment of tension. Heartbeat rising, you step into the light. Here you are. The Master of Ceremonies, the MC, the glue that holds improvisation and the outside world together. The one responsible for making everyone feel comfortable. The one who prepares but never over-promises. No pressure. Most groups underestimate the importance of the MC. We focus on their script - what should be said, not how and why it needs saying. This workshop performs a biopsy on the MC, with topics ranging from body language to audience warm-ups, the role of the MC in internationally known improv formats, and also a closer look on you as an individual and how you come across. Ready to go under the microscope?

About Charlotte De Metsenaere

At the age of 14, I was thrown into the impro field and it changed my life. 8 years later, I took over that impro school, turned my passion into my job, and started working as a freelance teacher, actress and director. Another 2 years later, I decided to start my own impro company called Zeggedis (Flemish for : 'Tell me!') to teach applied impro. Nowadays, I perform with Inspinazie in Leuven, Swaajp in Antwerp, and get invited as a guest player for other Flemish and English groups. I direct and teach several groups throughout Flanders. Travelling abroad is a passion of mine. It means I got to work with lots of people and in lots of fields. Keith Johnstone, Nicki Flacks, Loose Moose Theater My latest victories are becoming a part of Ohana since 2017, teaching at Big If 5 in 2018 and my future victory will be organizing the 10th Belgian festival Improovelicious. Also I like chocolate. I need stuff to be in the right place (my friends call me Monica), and I love people who see the beauty in everyday life.

About the Bengaluru Improv Festival

The Bengaluru Improv Festival is Indias FIRST and the ONLY Improv festival. Our first edition in November 2018, marked India's entry on the global Improv map with much vigor. India has a thriving Improv potential. After our first successful edition, we aim to keep bringing BIF back with the intention to get all those who practice the art of Improv under one roof.  The festival will see international Improv artists, who will collaborate with us to perform and teach their experienced knowledge about art.
