David Anil Piers is as raw and unphased by the complexities of the world as is his art. His broad, coloring outside the lines is testimony to how this 53 year old now lives his life: having recently closed down his meat store of 30+ years, this vegan artist spends hours transforming canvasses into a smorgasbord of colors. Known for his signature masks, David loses himself in the facial expressions, tilt of the head and even the subtle messaging through the focus of the eyes. His pop art has drawn much interest over the interwebs from seasoned painters and art critics. This is the first of his public exhibitions and Urban Solace is proud to share this stage with him.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION: David's MASKA According to Wikipedia, a mask is normally worn on the face, typically for protection, disguise, performance, or entertainment. Many ceremonial masks of indigenous cultures depict a time when ancestors transformed from supernatural beings to human forms while others rely on colors to represent religious, or sacred meanings. David's Masks, on the other hand, are the result of pure creative expression as he allows each canvas to show itself... quite like a magic painting book. Relying on nothing external for inspiration, he lets his intuition move his brush, picking colors and creating form as the picture unfolds. As the lines begin to tell a story, this artist's hand breathes emotion into the focus of the eyes, the turn of the lips, or the determination in the jaw. And, like any good piece of art, each opens itself up to interpretation...to the eye of the beholder.
