This Special Evening of Tuesdays with the Bard @ Urban Solace is a celebration of the life and work of two great poetic souls and is brought to you by Dr. Shobana Mathews
About our Curator: Shobana Mathews
Shobana Mathews is a professor at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), an alumni of MCC - Tambaram and has been teaching English at University for the past 22 years.
Before doing her M.Phil and doctorate, Shobana had set her heart on the arts as either a classical dancer or a painter while on her quest to find her calling. After a brief stint in the advertising industry, Shobana chose to teach Literature because of fascination with the written word.
Shobana completed her M.Phil on the "Folksong as Protest : A Study of the Works of Bob Dylan". This was in 1996, and was twenty years ahead of Dylan being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016.
Her PhD was titled "Towards Reading Songs in Performance as Aural Narrative : Reading a sense of Spatiality in select albums of Mark Knopfler using Henri Lefebvre's Notions of Space”
This evening’s experience will give you an insight into two legends in the world of music - Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler, reminding us that they were poets, thinkers and musicians.
