The “Master Muscle Marathon” is an initiative of DART (Dystrophy Annihilation Research Trust) NGO to create awareness about muscular dystrophy disease and the trials faced by children all over the world. DART has launched a comic series based on Karan, a young boy with Muscular Dystrophy who will turn into a neighborhood superhero in the Master Muscle series who helps people in need.
“Master Muscle Marathon” will be the first of its kind & an annual run from DART with an objective to create awareness among common people and use the opportunity to raise funds required for our Research. DART NGO is not funded by any government agencies and we welcome you with your friends, colleagues and family to come and participate to be part of this initiative to find a cure for this life-threatening disease. Our special invitation goes to “Person with Disabilities”including Paralympic athletes, Blade runners and children from special schools.

Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is a group of Genetic Diseases characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of skeletal and voluntary muscles which control and support movement of body. It affects cardiac & respiratory functions and other vital organs as well over the period. This condition affects all the muscles of the body and the children gradually lose their ability to walk and subjugated to wheelchair mostly by the age of 8 onwards and do not live beyond their early twenties due to cardiac or pulmonary failure. It is estimated that , Over 500,000 Children are affected in India without any “Cure” in sight.
Dystrophy Annihilation Research Trust (DART) is parent founded and funded organization in 2012 with the aim of providing solace and support to the families of children with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DART has set up a research facility to develop a cure to eradicate this dreadful disease. One of our main objectives is to bring awareness and treatment of DMD to the masses and in concordance with this we conduct various awareness events throughout the year.
When and where is the marathon held? Sunday, September 24th, 2017. GKVK Campus,Jakkur,Bangalore.
Who is Master Muscle?
Master Muscle comic series is an initiative of Dystrophy Annihilation Research Trust [DART] based on Karanveer a young boy with Muscular dystrophy who turns into a neighborhood superhero. Basically, the idea is to inspire the affected children to identify themselves as “Master Muscle” and also to spread awareness among the public.
What is the eligibility criteria?
MASTER MUSCLE MARATHON is an event that welcomes both the serious and the recreational runner. In fact, this event is ideal for a person who has never run before. There is no age or any restriction to participate in the event. People can choose to participate in the event based on their own limitations. Even though we are taking all necessary precautions towards our participants. Sole responsibility lies with the participants as we believe they have understood their health limitations and endurance power to compete in this event.
Is there a cut off time for the event?
We like to encourage participation than the competition, therefore, the route will be open for 3 hours even after the race starts.
The timing of the Event?
Walk in registration starts at 5:00 Am on the Day of the event and registration will be closed by 6:00 AM,
All registered participants are requested to be at the venue by 5:30 AM at least.
Can kids participate? Yes. We are encouraging kids to participate and mingle with our disabled kids to bring a sense of responsibility. However, parental discretion is advised.
All kids above 11 years can participate in the 7.9K or 3.5K race.
Kids of all ages can participate in the Fun Walk along with their family.
What do the participants get? All participants who complete the race will get a breakfast, finisher certificate, and a medal.
E-certificates will be sent via email to all the participants.
What are the types of run in this event?
Distance 7.9K and 3.5K
Run & Walk:- Individual, Couples, Family, and Pets
Rollathon:- Wheelchairs, Baby Strollers, Skate Boards or anything you can roll on.
FAMILY RUN or Walk
A couple with a child younger than 15 years can participate in this event. No restrictions on no of child who can join the couples. Just participate and have fun.
Participants are responsible to remove their dog’s poop during this event. Anybody violating this rule will be barred from the event and will be asked to leave the venue.
Why is the Distance 7.9K and 3.5K?
Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder that affects “1 in 3500 boys” hence 3.5K and caused by a defect in any one of “79 exons” responsible for the dystrophin protein so 7.9K.
Idea is to help people remember the cause and spread more awareness about Muscular Dystrophy.

There are separate toilets for men and women, Water Stations, a food court and plenty of onstage entertainment during and after the run. More importantly, First Aid providers and ambulance will be stationed. GKVK dispensary will also be accessible during the run.
What about Parking?
Paid Parking is available at the venue.
What happens if it rains on the day of the event? Rain or shine the race will be on.Unless the weather conditions threaten the safety of participants.
What is the dress code for the Marathon?
There is no specified dress code prescribed, but for an event such as marathon, it is advisable to wear a T shirt, comfortable trousers, and good running shoes. But you are always welcome to wear the outfit you are comfortable.
What to do in case of a medical emergency?
We have a medical team who are on standby with an ambulance so that any such incidence will be immediately dealt with. We also have our volunteers who will also be running with the runners any incidence will be immediately communicated and acted upon. We have requested GKVK dispensary to be open early to help our participants for any emergency.
