This workshop will focus on the actor's imagination. The overall objective of the workshop is to enable participants to take a step forward towards finding their own acting skills. The training is a physical and imaginative approach towards devising, improvising and acting. The workshop will be open to various backgrounds and languages.
Sandeep Shikhar has been a theatre practitioner for over two decades. He is a playwright, director, and actor. He has trained as an actor from the Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, New Delhi, 2002. He co-founded ‘Indian Ensemble’ with Abhishek Majumdar, and is currently the artistic director of Hindi language in Bhasha Centre, a Bangalore based theatre group.
As an actor, he has worked with many well-known theatre directors of the country and performed on national and international stages. As a writer, his work includes: ‘Treadmill’, ‘Naariyal Paani’, ‘Thook’ (co-writer with Irawati Karnik), ‘Deluxe Hair Cutting Salon’ and ‘Open Cast’. ‘Treadmill’ has been selected for the First Festival of contemporary Indian Theatre in Paris, 2013. He has directed ‘Naariyal paani’, ‘Deluxe Hair Cutting Salon’ and Open Cast’.
He had been nominated for Best Actor in a lead role for three years in Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (Gasha in 2013, Kaumudi in 2015, and Muktidhaam 2018) and won the Best Ensemble for Gasha. He has facilitated acting workshops for Dance Art Theatre Boeblingen, Germany in 2016 and 2018. He is a member of the Lincoln Centre Director’s Lab, New York, 2012. He is a recipient of the Vinod Doshi Fellowship Award 2016-2017.
