For years, open mics have given a voice to the voiceless and platforms for the stageless. Open mics have prospered in corners away from the public eye doing there bit for society.
Gil Scott Heron said The revolution will not be televised most probably it will not be this time around either. But a revolution is built on the backs of the people and their voices. It is built on the backs of the poets and their words of peace and protest.
From Rabindranath Tagore to Sarojini Naidu, from Namdeo Dhasal to Faiz Ahmed Faiz countless poets have made protests immortal and remind us to this day of the importance of freedom and the struggle behind it. Today the words of the poets of the past inspire us but they are not enough. Our own words are needed, and they need to be spoken.
So come, say what you want to in your poems. Talk love and hate, of peace and unrest, of the unholy and the blessed. The mic is yours and you are free to say what poems you will.
Just stick to the time limit. :p
