A master class with Violin Padma Shankar a senior disciple of Padma Bhushan Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman.
Shri Lalgudi established and evolved the Lalgudi Bani, a unique style that it comes closest to the Gayaki Style of musical expression with the Sahithya and expressions embedded with it. He is well known for his unmatched compositions such as Thillanas, Varnams, and Kritis. He has composed in the Tamil, Telugu and Sanskrit languages.
First time in Namma Bengaluru, a master class that provides an opportunity to learn Shri Lalgudi sirs compositions directly from Violin Padma. Workshop with a focus on the specialized Lalgudi Bani and learning select compositions by the Maestro himself.
About Padma Shankar: Multi faceted and versatile Smt. Padma Shankar is a born talent. She has very strong hold on Violin and needless to say, proves it right with every performance of hers. A truly master class artist, yet very humble, is an epitome of knowledge and grace. She was born in Mumbai , India and her training in music started at a tender age with her mother Smt Lakshmi Narayanan. Her basic training in violin was under the guidance of Sri. Ramakrishna Sarma of Mumbai . Violin being her strength and forte,she went on to pursue advanced training and professional performance skills under the tutelage of the Violin Maestro Padmabhushan Sri Lalgudi G .Jayaraman. Padma is also one of the few privileged artistes who learnt to sing Padmavibhushan Dr .M. Balamuralikrishna jis compositions directly from the maestro himself. Padma has done her Masters in Music from the University of Madras and is also an A graded artiste in All India Radio and Doordarshan. Padma is presently the curriculum coordinator in Shankar Mahadevan Academy , an online university of music founded by Mr. Shankar Mahadevan, the renowned Bollywood music director and singer. She has performed in all leading organisations and major festivals all over India and abroad. In June 2004, she has performed in the first ever carnatic classical symphony composed and conducted by Lalgudi. Jayaraman and Lalgudi G. J R Krishnan and which was premiered in Singapore. She also gives solo performances and accompanies various senior artistes for carnatic concerts. She has participated in the Tam Tam fest 2007 held in Tel Aviv, Israel with the Laya Project Live (world music) and in the Earth Sync Festival 2008 with world musicians. In 2011, she accompanied Anoushka Shankar at the premier of her album Traveller in Girona, Spain
A learning journey of a minimum of 4 years or competent to play at least 7 varnams in 2 speeds.
The emphasis is to lay a platform for enhanced concentrated learning, focused practice with a key to explore the creative side. The workshop will focus on using the knowledge of Varnams in manodharma. Techniques to enhance playing higher speeds with clarity. Students will learn a Varnam in the rare raga composed by the Maestro himself.
Note: Paramount care will be taken to cover the said topics. Learners are for sure to have an enriching and enthralling experience through this workshop.
