I'm an artist pursuing clinical psychology. As an artist, I compose songs, write poems, act, and do stand-ups based on my personal experiences. As a psychology student, I’m more interested in natural ways of healing than using legal or illegal drugs for everyday life stressors.
Suppressing our emotions, I believe, can have grave consequences on our minds. You rather confront, fight, and take a few bruises on your skin than let the thought scar your mind and manifest itself into fears, unwanted thoughts, and low self-esteem. Sometimes it may be difficult to voice out against an authoritative parent, a corrupt institution, a dead person, or a resentful trouble maker swearing at you on the road. Sometimes putting up a fight may not be necessary but expressing and letting it out is absolutely a must for the sanity of our mind.
Art is therapy: the evidence is in the long-standing cultural history of mankind, where different societies even if poles apart, have redeemed themselves from the challenges and emotional traumas through singing, etching on a rock, and dancing. Be it rebellious ideas, anger, unwanted thoughts, fear of death or phobias, fantasies, acceptances, bereavement, people from around the world have expressed themselves in different forms to deal with their life stressors: they are called artists. We find solace in their work but for catharsis, you must have your own expression and feelings smeared on a paper or a joke to cope or a melody to your mood or a movement to your madness.
Expressing is human; artistically, it is a therapeutic choice for healing.
Or we would have been sitting like animals licking our toes and armpits, thankfully we don’t have to. Nor do we have to find a rock to etch, or circle around a bonfire to howl.
You can just come on the 13th of Nov, 2019 to Lahe Lahe at 8.30.p.m. Bring your song, poem, stand up, or just yourself and feel good. Hopefully so much so that for the next one you will have your own story to share.
