HOW TO REACH

Everest Base Camp Trek

Kathmandu is an incredibly diverse historic city with beautiful Newari architecture, centuries-old Hindu, and Buddhist religious places along with dedicated tourist-friendly hotel accommodations and restaurants. Visiting Kathmandu is like stepping into a different world, and everyone should experience it at least once in their lifetime.

 By Air

The quickest and most comfortable mode of traveling from Delhi to Nepal is by air. There are various airlines such as Air India, Indigo, Jet Airways, etc. which operate on the Delhi - Kathmandu route with full service and low cost, having departures throughout the day. The flights from Delhi to Kathmandu offer much lower prices than the flight fares from Bangalore/Chennai/Hyderabad to Kathmandu. Duration of travel from Delhi to Nepal is about an hour and a half.

 By Rail and Bus

Traveling Delhi - Kathmandu by train is the most economical way. The train journey to Kathmandu will begin from Gorakhpur - Uttar Pradesh. Some trains run from Delhi to Gorakhpur. You will need to board the train early morning because the duration required to reach from Gorakhpur to the border is 3 hours. Then a bus or a shared jeep can be used to reach the border of Sunauli. From there, take another bus or shared jeep to Kathmandu. Bihar Sampark Kranti SF Express (12566), Sapt Kranti Superfast Express (12558), and SHC Garib Rath (12204) are a few trains that will help you reach Gorakhpur from Delhi in a duration of about 11 to 13 hours.

Banjara and Gypsy will provide roundtrip flights (Kathmandu to Lukla). Our Trek Coordinator will help you with the flight details during the booking process of Everest Base Camp trek

Detailed ItineraryDay 01 - Arrival at Kathmandu (1400m/4590ft). Rest and overnight in the hotel.

Today you arrive in the famous Kathmandu city. After meeting with the team in the hotel, get ready for a briefing session by our trek leader about the upcoming Everest base camp trek. Today will be the trek preparation day before we begin the journey to the Everest base camp trek. You may also want to arrive a day early to enjoy the experiences this fascinating city has to offer. Do visit the famous nearby places of touristic attractions. Spend the day exploring the streets of Kathmandu, with tantalizing aromas, vivid colors, and the bustle of the local market, all placed against the backdrop of the hills. After a quick briefing session with the team, the day is yours. Our trek leader will ensure that your equipment is in place and might suggest any gear that requires to be purchased or hired for your Everest base camp trek.

Day 02 - Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2860m/9383ft). Trek to Phakding (2610m/8560ft)

Today you will be making an early morning start from Kathmandu. The thrilling flight to Lukla is awaiting! (2,853m/ 9,360ft). The team will start from Kathmandu around 5 am and proceed to Kathmandu airport. Lukla is the gateway to the Khumbu Region & also the starting point of your Everest base camp trek. Be ready to get the first glimpse of Mount Everest during this flight. The views are sure to blow your mind away. The experience of flying on this route will be undoubtedly one of your best in the Everest base camp trek. The flight also passes through the gorgeous Kathmandu valley, giving some breathtaking views of the mountain ranges. From here, you will set off straight for the first stop at Phakding (2,600m/8,500ft) or even proceed further up to Monjo (2,850m/9,350ft). Both these villages are located on the banks of the Dudh Kosi, which flows the entire Khumbu Region. These small villages are present on the main trade route through the area, and there are several clean and well-built tea houses in the Everest base camp trek route.

Day 03 - Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11,290ft)

Today's trek is a long route that begins along the Dudh Kosi river. En route, you will notice local villages with friendly children tagging along as you hike. As you continue up the banks of the Dudh Kosi, you will be crossing it twice by suspension bridges before entering the village of Monjo, where you enter the Sagarmatha National Park. You will later cross the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and the Bhote Kosi on a high suspension bridge and hike steeply for nearly two hours up Namche Hill to reach Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286ft). Namche is a prosperous trading town and the main center of the Khumbu Region. Numerous Tibetans cross the nearby border to trade their wares here, and the local market is an engaging and captivating view. This is an excellent point to buy genuine Tibetan artifacts. Just over the valley to the east stand the peaks of Kangtega and Thamserku - both awe-inspiring mountains.

Day 04 - Namche Bazaar - Acclimatization and rest day

Today will be utilized as an acclimatization day as your body needs to adjust to the low oxygen levels. Aim to climb high and sleep low; that way, you acclimatize faster. This allows your body to better adapt to the altitude before you continue the ascent. A slow and steady pace with adequate time for acclimatization is significant to an enjoyable hike. Today you will see magnificent views of Kwangde (20,930ft), Thamserku (21,680ft), and Kangtega (21,932ft). As you hike further, up to 12,500 ft, you get absolutely stunning views of Lhotse (27,605ft), Nuptse (25,790ft), Ama Dablam (22,493ft), and even Mount Everest (29,029ft).

Day 05 - Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3870m/12,700ft

Crossing Namche, the Everest base camp trek route contours around the side of the valley above the Dudh Kosi. As you follow the path, you will get the first magnificent views of the high peaks of the Khumbu: Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. You descend to our lunch stop crossing many small villages and many tea shops; you will pass the Dudh Kosi River. After a break, make the long ascent on a dusty zig-zag trail. This hike up to Tengboche will take about two hours. From the Lunch spot to Tengboche is a steep ascent. Tengboche is home to an impressive and rebuilt monastery. You have plenty of time to look around Tengboche. Stay for today will be in a new lodge right across the monastery.

Day 06 - Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m/14,470ft)

Today you will trek from Tengboche to Dingboche. You will make an initial descent through Rhododendron trees. The trail crosses a suspension bridge just ahead of Tengboche. Walk for an hour, and you will be reaching Pangboche, an excellent viewpoint for Mount Ama Dablam. Contouring up the valley side, you will cross the river again and turn up to the Imja Valley and reaching the charming village of Dingboche (4,410m/ 14,465ft). Surrounded by striking mountains, high peaks, and breathtaking views, this place is sure to leave you mesmerized. There are some internet cafes, some lovely lodges, and a few bakeries. It is essential to keep yourself hydrated throughout the Everest base camp trek. Rest well for the remaining part of the day.

Day 07 - Dingboche - Acclimatization and rest day

Today is an important acclimatization and rest day in your Everest base camp trek. You can hike up to the ridge overlooking the village, or further up to Chukung Village. It offers excellent views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chukung Peak, and Imja Tse (6189m). Magnificent views can be captured from both the valley and from the ridge above the camp. Massive glaciers cover underneath cliffs that soar up to 3,500 meters in this dramatic valley.

Day 08 - Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4940m/16,210ft)

You are starting to gain altitude now after Dingboche, and it is important to hike at a slow and steady pace. The slopes change to barren now as you move above the tree line. Views of peaks like Cholatse and Lobuche unfold in front of you in this contrasting and striking landscape. You hike further up the Dugla Ridge and onto moraines towards the Khumbu Glacier. You will also see beautiful rock cairns - many of which are dedicated to the memory of climbers who attempted climbing the peaks in this region, including Mount Everest. The temperatures begin to drop down and get colder, and you trek along the moraines and exposed weather. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Everest base camp trek route. Nuptse and Pumori can be captured beautifully from here. The mountain above offers exceptional sunset views of Nuptse. Overnight at an eco-lodge in Lobuche.

Day 09 - Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep (5170m/16,970ft) to Everest base camp (5365m/17,600ft) and back to Gorakshep

You will start early today and trek towards Everest base camp. After hiking for about three hours, you will reach Gorekshep (5,180m/17,126ft), the place of the 1953 Everest Expedition's base camp. After refilling your bottles with more water, continue the hike further up the famous trail to Everest Base Camp. This is it; you will walk the final stretch of your Everest Base Camp trek. Once here, you can explore around base camp, go to the edge of the Khumbu Icefall. If you are trekking in the period between the end of March to May, you get to meet and interact with the many climbing teams planning their expeditions to the world's highest mountains and mount Everest. Experience this magical place around the base camp before leaving Everest base camp and heading back to Gorakshep. This is a long and rewarding hike of almost eight hours.

Day 10 - Trek to Kalapatthar (5545m/18,200ft) and from there to Pheriche (4370m/14,340ft)

Today you will be hiking up to Kalapatthar at 5,632m/18,477ft. It is highly recommended to make this ascend of Kalapatthar where you can get the best views. The sunrise from here is absolutely gorgeous, and it will be one of the most spectacular mountain views you will ever see. Mount Everest's views are awe-inspiring and incredible. The hike up to this place should take about two hours. It is a steep and hard climb up to the viewpoint, but it is undoubtedly a rewarding one. The classic view of Mount Everest and the Khumbu Icefall, as well as Nuptse, Lhotse, and Pumori, are worth all the effort. This view of Mount Everest will surely leave you inspired and will bring positive thoughts and adding more value to this whole trip. For many, this may even change your life in simple ways you never imagined. Gorekshep is one of the main highlights of the Everest base camp trek. After the morning summit, you will return to Gorakshep and descend back to Pheriche (4,200m/13,780ft). The trek up and down Kalapatthar should take about three hours with some additional time spent on the top. From Gorakshep you take the trail down towards Pheriche.

Day 11 - Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11,290ft)

It is a long day today, and you will be making an early morning start. Trek from Pheriche to Namche, capturing the beauty of the mountain ranges before we descend. Today the trail will be a moderate one and familiar path up to Namche Bazaar. There is a little hike before Tengboche and after Phungi Thanga. A sense of delight buoys you along as you descend through the now-familiar paths of Dingboche and Tengboche, and finally to Namche Bazaar. It's celebration time at one of the many cafes and eateries at Namche with your friends and teammates!

Day 12 - Trek from Namche Bazar to Phakding to Lukla (2860m/9383ft)

After Namche, there is a big descent up to Phakding. If the weather is clear, get plenty of photos of your last views of the majestic peaks we've enjoyed so much along the way, including Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. You will not be seeing these giants again after reaching the teahouse at Phakding. In Phakding, you will enjoy yet another spectacular Himalayan sunset with the mountain background before turning in. After the descent, its time to enjoy the night in a tea house where you can shower. Post this, look forward to a memorable farewell party with all our excellent support staff. They have contributed so much to the trek and the success of our Himalayan adventure.

Day 13 - Fly from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Overnight in hotel at Kathmandu

Time to say goodbye to the Himalayas! Today you will fly back to Kathmandu enjoying the same exotic views from the window. Gazing at the peaks one last time before reaching Kathmandu. It's time to take your Everest Base Camp trek stories home and share it with dear ones! Preparation for your return flight to Kathmandu will begin very early this morning. Taking off from Lukla airstrip is an exhilarating experience; also, the last look at the snowy Himalayas is bittersweet. On arriving at Kathmandu, you are met by our ground staff and transferred to you hotel booked for your stay. Finally, time for hot showers, clean clothes, and a relaxing day. 1.Firstly we ( me and my friend) could only stand to stay there for barely 20 minutes and hence those were the most expensive 20 minutes of our lives.2. The arrangements were really substandard when it came to what we paid for and also imagined from my conversation with you.3. The food was again very below average and something that is served at a very basic wedding at some community hall. A lot of things mentioned in the menu weren't available. The taste was again bad. The sitting area was dirty and smelly. There were stray dogs hunting for their own meals ( like I said it was a like a very SAD wedding event of a random realtive which we are forced to attend.)4. Coming to drinks & service at the bar, again the area was extremely underwhelming. The drinks on the menu weren't available. The snack counter was empty. We were told it'll be refilled soon. There was some issue in communication as well as not everyone seemed to be well-versed in English or Hindi.5. Coming to the tents + washrooms, pretty decent but washrooms were again more dirty than expected. 6. Ambience - extremely sad! The whole vibe of the place was anything one wanted to take in and feel good about. Didn't feel like taking pictures or sitting anywhere as it really felt like I am at some Wedding I didn't wanted to attend. The decor was given zero thought about. Nothing exciting at all. Shabby satin covers on plastic tables. Stray dogs. Litter. That's it. - by Ritika for New Year Camping under the stars organized by Banjara & Gypsy .
