You will learn the basics of Gond Art and contribute in reviving an endangered Indian art form.

Gond art is the art of stories, spirituality and good luck. It is the reflection of Indias largest adivasi community called Gonds.

Traditionally believed to be storytellers, the Pradhan Gonds used to narrate stories which glorified the king and this was mainly the source of their livelihood. With the emergence of the British, their downfall began. But it was during early 1980s when Gond Art found its way back.

In the early days the Gonds painted their walls with lively portrayals of local flora, fauna and gods. The mystical art form is created by putting together dots and lines. The artists earlier only used colors developed with charcoal, plant saps, cow dung and leaves, but today, mostly acrylic colors are used. Most of the paintings when perceived carefully impart a sense of movement to the still images.

Learn the stories of this art and its basics from grassroots of rural India.

ABOUT NAZARIYA

In this world of digital art and 3D printing, Nazariya is a movement to bring us closer, to the beautiful world of Indian Folk Art. It is an effort in not just reviving these artforms, but also making them relevant for today. Nazariya is trying to bring out the subtle message behind these artforms; the message of unity, brotherhood and community. This is Nazariya's way of taking you on an incredible journey into India's past, helping us create a new future.

We believe that artisans need to be respected and promoted, for the art forms they have given their life to. The story of the artisans must be told to the urban youth, to engage them into various art forms, traditions and cultures which are on their way to extinction.
