Welcome to Young-Scientist.in's October Chemistry Month.

Chemistry is fun and we believe it. If you do not agree, give us a chance to change your mind! This is the third workshop as part of our celebration of chemistry.

Analytical chemistry is the study and use of instruments and methods necessary to separate, identify, and quantify matter. We will provide a basic training on the concerned methods including the use of common lab apparatus like the pipette, burette, electronic scale etc. Several experiments and demonstrations will be done to prepare your child for titration. We will be performing a titration of a simple Acid-Base neutralisation reaction. The concept behind the procedure will be discussed and everyone will be guided to complete the experiment.

Titration is a fundamental and essential procedure in Qualitative Chemistry. It is a skill that will be useful at any level: High School to PhD and beyond.

If you are interested in experimental chemistry or are thinking about a career in Research & Development, or want to learn the skills needed in the science lab, this workshop is highly recommended.

Tentative list of experiments:

  1. Law of Conservation of Mass
  2. Pipette & Burette
  3. Density with a twist
  4. Acid-Base titration

Key Concepts:

  1. Measurements
  2. Experimentation
  3. Hypothesis
  4. Data collection & Validation
  5. Law of Conservation of Mass
  6. Titration

Workshop Objective:

  1. Introduction to Analytical Chemistry
  2. Appreciate the empirical process of science
  3. Safety training in Chemistry
  4. Learn proper use of chemical apparatus
  5. Measure the density of liquids and irregular objects
  6. Understand the process of titration
  7. Perform a basic acid-base titration
