Brought to you by Young-scientist
Please note that this is a kid-only camp.

Class IV to X

This one-day camp will consist of two segments and two projects:

1. Aeromodelling through paper gliders
2. Rocket Science using Air-Powered Rocket

Making paper gliders offers a unique combination of science and origami. The precise and careful foldings of the glider are dictated by the principles of flight. In this workshop, we will give you an introduction to this confluence of science and art. The basics of folding paper gliders will be introduced and the scientific explanation provided.

We will build a few gliders starting from the simplest to the advanced. Please note that this will not be an easy activity and will demand patience and concentration.

Tentative list of gliders:

  • Marlin
  • Hurricane
  • Ketch

Session Objective:

  • Learn the principles of flight
  • Appreciate the nuance of paper gliders
  • Learn to make unique gliders like the KETCH
  • Experience the fun of launching self-made gliders

Rocket Science:

Joining the revolution of the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) movement, Young-Scientist. in is presenting a workshop for kids in basic rocketry. The kit for this workshop comes with all the necessary materials, instruction manual and the participants will be carefully guided to build their own rocket using their own hands. You will build it, test it and take it home!

This air-powered rocket uses manually compressed air to propel the projectile. The angle of the launch can be adjusted and the rocket can reach up to 30 ft into the air.

The workshop will help you understand the basics of pneumatics and the working of an air-powered rocket. The participants will develop reading comprehension and ability to follow technical instructions.

Note: The registration fee includes the cost of the rocket material kit. Each participant will receive the kit at the venue and use it to build the rocket and the launcher. You are requested to bring one 1-litre/2 liter easily-crushable plastic bottle.

Why Do-It-Yourself (DIY)?

Why Do-It-Yourself (DIY)?

"Give your son a fish, he will eat today. Teach him how to fish, he will eat every day" is a proverb that encapsulates the spirit of Do-It-Yourself and this workshop. We want to provide your child with the confidence and skills to materialize what they imagine- starting from simple models. If a child feels empowered, he or she will grow to be an independent and self-sufficient person.

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Young-Scientist ensures that at least 50% of its programs contain hands-on activities. We believe that learning is best when immediately reinforced by a visual and tangible lesson. Some of the experiments we do are demonstrations for the safety of the children. However, none of our workshops is "pure theory/lecture", unless otherwise stated. We encourage the children's active participation in experiments/activities whenever possible.

  • The key concepts per session will be kept minimal and simple.
  • They will be reinforced repeatedly, along with experiments, to achieve the desired learning outcomes.
  • Experiments and activities will be distributed over the duration of the session.
  • Theory sessions will be brief and serve to connect the different activities.
  • Videos and animations will be employed whenever possible.
  • Worksheets and Observation sheets will be provided wherever necessary.
