Imagine having a modular building system for housing and furniture without the need for skilled labour - masonry, carpentry or welding. Without the use of water or electricity. A self standing/supporting structure without the need of a foundation. Has standard load specifications and uses readily available recyclable industrial materials. Is prefab and uses direct bolting assembly without the need of complex fabrication. Is movable, Agile and adaptive. Is self buildable/DIY or Do it together . low tech and simple design and doesn't need regulatory approvals.Takes a fraction of the time, cost and resources to build. Can build tiny modules and as and when needed can be expanded, joined, swapped or/and stacked to cater to evolving needs. Can be set up on any underutilized spaces like rooftops, backyards, lane ways, Garages, Gardens, partition room or empty lots. Is a flexible frame based system that can be creatively adapted to emerging needs from emergency shelters to semi permanent or reinforced to permanent. Is disassembleable, reusable and recyclable. This can be very empowering and disruptive. Like the Internet and the cloud, could leapfrog physical infrastructure solutions for urbanising futures. #democratizehousing #SlottedAngleframes #ADUrevolution #secondaryunits Pop-Up Housing

Doesn't it feel like there's a massive scarcity of living spaces but also so much underutilized space in dense urban areas?

We just might have to solution to this global problem.

Tomorrow, be there! - Marvin Diaz

1 more day to go for the exciting workshop. Looking forward....

We're building a bridge between maximizing space utilization and the lack of accommodation spaces in urban areas. Pop Up Housing on the 26th. Let's do this!

Guys together with Sampath Reddy from Pop-Up Housing we are designing amazingly inspiring and smart homes that are -

1. Easy &cheap to build

2. Movable and Adaptable structures

3. Solar powered

4. Rain water harvesting structures

We are crowdsourcing ideas and resources from our community.

If you want to learn to build houses like this come and attend the workshop at the hostel.

Let us help you expand the boundaries of your comfort. It's dark humor night!

Tonight, we make the audiences uncomfortable. We break rules and overstep boundaries. We joke about what's taboo.

#standup #comedy #travel #india #bangalore #art #culture #community #funnybusiness #taboo #inappropriate #ban #cuckoohostel #darkhumor

Thats Inappropriate!
Our series of experimental comedy brings back, That's Inappropriate! It will be an evening of all the dark and disgusting humour lying deep down inside everyone. These comics will be opening the Pandora's box and bring the best out of it.

Shamik:

A self proclaimed "analog guy in a digital world", Shamik spends most of his waking hours staring at computer and smart phone screens, blissfully ignorant about his incredible hypocrisy. His comedy involves rants about various topics with a consistently low level of background research.

Sumit Saurav-

He has written codes in C and C++, and he got the output as '346 errors found','system corrupted','somebody call 911' etc. Then he started writing codes in comedy and go the output as 'LOL','ROFL','I want my money back' etc. With this killer programming skills, he hacked the spotlight of the comedy circuit and started performing for the auditorium and corporate shows.

Anand-

Anand Ratnam is a civil engineer turned stand-up comedian who hates almost everything in the world. A whiney and procrastinating comedian who has an opinion on everything but frankly nobody cares. He is sometimes funny though.

Kjeld Sresth:

Kjeld sreshth (pronounced kelt sray-sssht!) is an idiot who grew up watching way too many movies as a kid and as a result, he is now convinced he has dreams in life! After finding out about the comedy scene in the city, he quit his corporate job and began to pursue a career in comedy, a mistake he hopes, one day, will make a great story to tell! Also, he's the one writing this description and he wants you to know that it's really weird to talk about oneself in the third person. Come down and watch Kjeld at any of his gigs, try his best to convince people to join the religion he just started.

Guest Spots :

Sejal Bhat and Arnav.

Cuckoo Hostel is super excited to introduce a new format to our Sunday nights of experimental comedy!

Run'In and Gun'In : One host will moderate 5 comics going up against each other in 3 minute rounds. The comic with the weakest set in each round gets eliminated until we have one comic standing. Each set will last only 3 minutes and will be judged purely on applause breaks and audience reaction which will ensure the comedians go all out right from the start.

The Gunners:

Shunky:

An easily intimidated, hyperactive stand-up comic, who loves chai, dancing and is always bouncing off the walls. He has performed with some of the best comics in the country for over 2 years and was part of Bangalores First Comedy Festival held at UB City in Oct 2015. Actually, his real name is Shankar but, as a child, his pet name was Shunky and he was teased by the name Shunky Monkey. It scarred him for life.

I should have stopped typing the bio, three lines ago. Alright, Stopping now. Alvida!

Somnath:

A low on confidence and a confused guy, Somnath is in a love and hate relation- ship with superheroes. He is a graduate, in Electrical Engineering, from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, who quit his Job for Stand-Up Comedy. He currently lives in Bangalore.

Kjeld:

Kjeld sreshth (pronounced kelt sray-sssht!) is an idiot who grew up watching way too many movies as a kid and as a result, he is now convinced he has dreams in life! After finding out about the comedy scene in the city, he quit his corporate job and began to pursue a career in comedy, a mistake he hopes, one day, will make a great story to tell! Come down and watch Kjeld at any of his gigs, try his best to convince people to join the religion he just started.

Suhas:

Suhas Navarathna possesses a deranged view of life and is a student of Engineering to boot. He identifies himself as a Dysfunctional Hindu, a realist and an alcoholic. His style of Stand-Up Comedy is based on significant religious observations, his failed relationships, and his mother tongue.

Visting Gunners: Garv Malik and Ashish Dash.

If you love travel/ sustainability/ art, Cuckoo Hostel is the place to be tomorrow!

If you love all three then you've got to be there

Gathr presents Vasudhaiva Ride
Gathr was birthed because of a shared dream, so we consider our duty to support dreamers, especially those with as humanistic and playful a mission as Ben and Prahsant of Vasudhaiva Ride. Weve only heard about motorcycle trips from South Asia across the Middle East and Continental Europe in the course of legendary stories from old timers: current geopolitical f*@$-ups means that only those with a lot of gumption and heart can even consider it. Ben and Prashant are two such people, and were going to have a conversation with them about how the idea germinated, what emotions one wrestles with when deciding on going for a year-long bike rode, why they are bringing Buddy the dog, etc.

Also, Ben will play the sax and Prashant percuussion because they are good at it and music makes everything better.

Tu *hutiya Hai!
TU *HUTIYA HAI is an experimental comedy night ( Hecklers night) . The audience will be empowered to be assholes. The audience has to make the comedian's life into living hell. Make it difficult for them to make you laugh. You dont like a joke, say it! You have a smartass comment, shout it out! You will never feel so empowered and free. All this with some genuinely good comedy.

Your subjects for the night:

Sumit Saurav:

He has written codes in C and C++, and he got the output as '346 errors found','system corrupted','somebody call 911' etc. Then he started writing codes in comedy and go the output as 'LOL','ROFL','I want my money back' etc. With this killer programming skills, he hacked the spotlight of the comedy circuit and started performing for the auditorium and corporate shows.

Shamik Chakrabarti:

A self proclaimed "analog guy in a digital world", Shamik spends most of his waking hours staring at computer and smart phone screens, blissfully ignorant about his incredible hypocrisy. His comedy involves rants about various topics with a consistently low level of background research.

Abhijeet Ranka:

My name is abhijeet ranka and I am waiting to hit puberty. I am a marwadi and I knows English.

Arvind:

'What's The Scene?' is an experimental comedy night where each comic will right down 3 weird premises beforehand on pieces of paper. We'll also be taking suggestions from the audience which we'll collect in a hat before the show.

It will be a crazy outcome of a blend of these premises.

Characters:

Shunky R Chugani -

An easily intimidated, hyperactive standup comic, who loves chai, dancing and is always bouncing off the walls.

Alvida!

Aamer Peeran :

A comedian, writer, actor, musician, VO artist, cartoonist originally from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, born to an Indian father and a Pakistani mother. He started out in the Bangalore Open Mic circuit almost 3 years ago. He is constantly writing new material for his performances and trying to better it on stage and in bed.

Somnath-

An under confident and confused guy, Somnath is in a love and hate relation- ship with superheroes. He is an graduate, in Electrical Engineering, from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, who quit his Job for Stand-Up Comedy. He currently lives in Bangaloare .

Joteen-

I know you won't believe anything written in the bio. I am just another guy who loves to laugh and make people laugh. You have to watch me to know me because just a small description is not enough to explain one's personality.

Anand-

Anand Ratnam is a civil engineer turned stand-up comedian who hates almost everything in the world. A whiney and procrastinating comedian who has an opinion on everything but frankly nobody cares. He is sometimes funny though.
