Workshop by Susmita Das Gupta

Susmita Das Gupta, the organizer of first Tea Festival India is a tea lover and the founder of the Tea group Its Our Cuppa Tea (https://www.facebook.com/itsourcuppatea/) , which is the most popular tea group in Bangalore being regularly covered by all major newspapers.
Susmita grew up in a family of tea connoisseurs in Kolkata and was introduced to fine tea from her childhood. Her love of tea prompted her to start this tea group and she does tea tasting for various tea brands and conducts workshops on tea appreciation and pairing.

Anamika, a Tea drinker by birth and a Tea-Taster by profession, has her own brand of tea she calls Anandini Himalaya Tea and is the GoTo person for all things Tea in India. She introduced various new flowery and herbal infusions to the Indian market and conducts Tea tasting ceremonies, conferences & events across India. Anamika’s expertise extends to food pairing as part of the sensorial journey to culinary ecstasy.
She comes from a family of tea experts and spends her time navigating between Dharamshala, where her family tea estate is, and Gurgaon where she now lives. Anamika is widely covered in media.

4. Journey to Rediscover Tea - Legends, History & Lifestyle Choice in Today's World - 18th March - Book Here

The session will take the participants on a journey that transcends 8000 years and spans the whole globe.

The participants will learn about:

  • The legends and cultural context of tea
  • How tea travelled the world & Indias central role in the modern tea economy
  • How to tea is made - from the garden to the cup

The workshop will be conducted in a very interactive way and the stories around tea will be told through experiencing and tasting of teas from the different eras to give participants a very unique insight into the journey of tea.

Processing of tea will also be demonstrated and participants will be able to touch and feel real tea leaf fresh from the gardens in Nilgiris and the tea at various stages of production from green leaf, to withered leaf to macerated dhool to oxidised dhool to dried tea to graded tea that is ready for packaging.

Gurmeet is a tea enthusiast, inventor and innovator. He is a leading tea scientist and technologist in the tea world and has 24 inventions on tea to his name besides numerous scientific publications. What started as a profession has become a passion and experiments on tea have become experiences with tea. Gurmeet has work on tea for almost 20 years. His tea work and hobby has taken him tea estates, gardens and factories across India, Kenya, Sri Lanka and China. He has given many talks on tea in various forums around the world. A true connoisseur of tea, Gurmeet has acquired unparalleled knowledge of all things tea from tea tasting to tea appreciation, from tea mixology to tea-food pairing, from tea history to tea culture, from tea craft to tea innovations. He uses his knowledge to create new teas and tea blends. He has a personal collection of over a hundred teas, drinks a litre of tea a day and loves to share his tea experiences with others

Jyoti is a passionate tea-aficionado who brings to table a mix of function and flair, combining excellence in tea and health research with activation of innovation. She loves unearthing every conceivable facet that makes tea a lifestyle choice and through her research, she has been relentlessly championing the story of tea taste and health. Her persistence to make the cuppa of goodness an experience to be treasured, took her on path to understand the tea consumer’s sensory preferences. With a specialist tea knowledge, product domain expertise and a flair for mixology, she enjoys bringing vitality to people’s lives by crafting novel tea based delights. Some of the pioneering work she is driving in this area includes unearthing the molecular basis of tea pairing with food and drinks.
She hails from the picturesque coastal belt of Karnataka, a southern Indian state and loves any conversation on all things tea.

In recent years, there has been a rediscovery of tea as celebrities endorse it, social media tweets about it and popular print media churns out articles on the role tea plays in holistic wellbeing
Even as tea gains in popularity as a positive lifestyle choice and finds a place along with healthier diets and physical workouts in ours daily regimens, for most of us there are still many questions that are unanswered. Is tea really that good? Are all teas good – black, oolong, green or matcha? Which tea should I have for which benefit? How should I be making my tea to maximise its goodness. And many more.
In this session the participants will see why tea is being recommended as a healthy lifestyle choice and how it nourishes both body and mind. They will be exposed to the debate on staggering information on benefits of tea versus veracity of data. Distilled information on many years of research on tea and health on benefit areas of interest such as heart health, diabetes and weight management and the goodness ingredients in different kinds of tea will be shared. The participants will learn about
