The exhibition and sale of handcrafted Dolls and Lamps for Dasara and Diwali will be from 12th of October at their store Kamalini, Malleshwaram. The exhibition will be held till Diwali
One of the highlights of the Dasara Festival in Karnataka is the Gombe Habba, or Festival of Dolls. The festival is celebrated for ten days, nine nights of Navaratri and Vijayadashami on the tenth day, where the focus is on the worship of Adishakti or Durga, the female principle, in all her manifestations. A multi-tiered display (ranging from three to nine steps) symbolizing the durbar of Durga is arranged in homes, on which are represented manifestations of the Universe - divinities, humans ,flora and fauna, the sequence following a common pattern.
KAMALINI will display a variety of handcrafted dolls and toys and lamps. Painted woodware dolls from Kinhal , Northern Karnataka ranging from gods and goddesses, folk deities, decorated cows, bulls and horses, women engaged in rural activities and toys like “kiskal gombe” and “ambekal ganesha”. Raja Rani dolls from red sanders wood and vegetable dyed dasavatara dolls from Andhra Pradesh will also be featured.
As everyone knows, Deepawali is the festival of lights and hence a variety of lamps including “Deepa Laxmi” lamps and decorated terracotta lamps will be on sale.
Price of dolls start from Rs 120 upwards and Lamps from Rs.50 upwards
Kamalini the craft store
This craft store was started way back in 2006 to show case the products developed by the council in liaison with the local craftspersons. Showcasing some of the finest crafts from across Karnataka and the country, Kamalini is a crafts store with a difference. The main objective of the store is to provide a platform for the artisan to display and thereby sell their products. The crafts of Karnataka like. Chennapatna toys and lifestyle items, ganjifa art , stone ware from halebeedu , kinhale wood products , bidri ware, brassware,puppets and chittara art were the main focus. The store also support products of artisans from other states like kondapalli crafts, Kalamkari and leather puppets from andhra, chettinad baskets from Tamilnadu, bamboo baskets from Assam, metal crafts from Jaipur and UP and various life.
