What do we have with us when the mind goes blank?
What do we have with us when the voice stutters?
What do we have with us from the day we are born?

*Say it on cue*:

Body with Mind is a workshop aimed at harnessing the power of this unshakeable companion in our journey and see what our bodies are suggesting to us, what our bodies are suggesting to our co-improviser, and what our comfortable fall-back options are. I aim to collide my 8 years of experience in Playback Theatre and the excitement that I have for improv to see how much learning and fun we can have. The workshop will contain techniques to turn the gaze inward, turn the exploration inward, and jump, yell and shout in new ways. Imma throws some light theory on body and performance in the mix too. Let's listen to our bodies? Yes And, take them on a spin along with our minds.

About Laxmi:

Laxmi Priya SN has been a Playback Theatre performer for past 8 years and has recently ventured into Improv Theatre. She is also a theatre-based trainer for students and corporate clients. Deeply curious about intersectionality, identity, and other such academic things, she likes reading and remaining updated about socio-political tidings.

About ICB:
ICB or Improv Comedy Bangalore is a professional Improv theatre company in Bangalore. Our aim is to bring the transformational techniques of Improv to all kinds of performance and corporate learning environments.

It all started in April this year, when I first saw ICB perform at their show Mashprov. I was introduced to a new form of theatre and art form which I vaguely remembered from having seen a single episode of Whose Line is it Anyway. But this, this was real. There was Abhishek, the brilliant host (the best one in ICB) who did an amazing job in explaining this art form and the many acts of the show captivating us in the process. Lavanya, who just amazed me with her expressive acting and improv skills. Balasree, whose sarcasm and perfect timing added to the charm. Sneha, who just owned the game “New Choice” with her absurd, funny and interesting choices. Then there was Akhil, who just took it to the next level by playing some grumpy politician in a gameshow. I’ve never laughed so much before.
So began my love for ICB, and my love for improv. I had immense respect and admiration for every single person in ICB after seeing them perform. Over time, I met the other amazing artists of the group. Vaishnavi, who could slay you on stage without a sweat if needed. Aarti, who could get into any character with her own fun style (Loved the one where she and Nasir played grumpy parents with

Lavanya and Sahil as the kids in a game of “Story Story Die”).

But these were just the tip of the iceberg. Just when I thought this couldn’t get any better, I was introduced to two of the senior members of ICB, Rohit and Nasir.
The show was Improv Mayhem, also featuring an amazing Improv artist from japan, Christiane Brew. Although every single one of them performed really well, you could clearly see the magic that Rohit and Nasir had together when they performed. And that’s the show I became a big fan of Rohit.

Then came ICB’s next amazing ensemble, The Adamant Eve’s. The all-women improv group, featuring another great senior improviser from ICB, Madhu. She’s a true actor, you can see it in the way she expresses herself. This show really upped ICB’s game a notch and they even added a musical element to it. I had tears of laughter during the show. Too much fun. The girls were amazing!

And finally, the latest show by ICB, “Improvised Tales with ICB”. Something new, something wonderful. The show was hilarious. Rohit was may favourite, again. Balasree, killed it with her amazing keyboard and musical skills. The musical element for this show was exceptional. The tales like taking a boring “fairy tale” suggestion from the audience and giving it a “desi twist” was brilliance and just hysterical. And as usual, these guys up their level every single time. I measure their shows by how much I cry laughing during their show, and this show, I cried the most.

I've been to all of ICB's shows since I came to know about. I enjoyed their shows then, and I continue to love and admire their work even now.

Can’t wait for the next one!
