Show 3 | 23rd Nov | Bengaluru Improv Festival

Tissue Based Spaceships: Tissue-Based Spaceships is an improv duo made up of longtime best friends Christopher Conner and Habeeb Khan, based in the Metro East of St. Louis, MO. We have been performing together since our high school production of Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead." Both of us have been in several other improv troupes before, but we are excited for this joint venture of our first “twosie.” We utilize our perspectives as a Filipino-American and Indian-American, respectively, to present a unique long-form performance that appeals to a global audience. We are especially excited for our upcoming journey to participate in India’s first ever Improv Festival. Chris fell in love with India years ago when Habeeb forced him to watch many Bollywood films and Habeeb has not been back to India since he was six years old. Tissue-Based Based Spaceships is ready to share the laughter with the people of this great nation!

The Modern Schemers: They are Singapores longest-running and weirdest improv comedy team. For 40 shows and counting, they will turn your suggestions into hilarious and heartfelt comedy gold!

About the Bengaluru Improv Festival:

The Bengaluru Improv Festival is Indias first Improv Festival. The festival marks Indias entry in the art of Improvisation Theatre. In the space of live & participatory entertainment, Improv is the next big thing. Improvisation not only encapsulates the realm of comedy but goes beyond it, to categorise itself under theatre. India has a thriving Improv potential. BIFs intention is to get all those who practice the art of Improv under one roof. The festival will also see international Improv artists, who will collaborate with us to perform and teach their experienced knowledge about the art. Improvisation has various styles and forms that remain unexplored which will become a discovery to all those who be a part of the festival. We are also bringing about an awareness to our audiences on the different styles of Improv there exists.

It all started in April this year, when I first saw ICB perform at their show Mashprov. I was introduced to a new form of theatre and art form which I vaguely remembered from having seen a single episode of Whose Line is it Anyway. But this, this was real. There was Abhishek, the brilliant host (the best one in ICB) who did an amazing job in explaining this art form and the many acts of the show captivating us in the process. Lavanya, who just amazed me with her expressive acting and improv skills. Balasree, whose sarcasm and perfect timing added to the charm. Sneha, who just owned the game “New Choice” with her absurd, funny and interesting choices. Then there was Akhil, who just took it to the next level by playing some grumpy politician in a gameshow. I’ve never laughed so much before.
So began my love for ICB, and my love for improv. I had immense respect and admiration for every single person in ICB after seeing them perform. Over time, I met the other amazing artists of the group. Vaishnavi, who could slay you on stage without a sweat if needed. Aarti, who could get into any character with her own fun style (Loved the one where she and Nasir played grumpy parents with

Lavanya and Sahil as the kids in a game of “Story Story Die”).

But these were just the tip of the iceberg. Just when I thought this couldn’t get any better, I was introduced to two of the senior members of ICB, Rohit and Nasir.
The show was Improv Mayhem, also featuring an amazing Improv artist from japan, Christiane Brew. Although every single one of them performed really well, you could clearly see the magic that Rohit and Nasir had together when they performed. And that’s the show I became a big fan of Rohit.

Then came ICB’s next amazing ensemble, The Adamant Eve’s. The all-women improv group, featuring another great senior improviser from ICB, Madhu. She’s a true actor, you can see it in the way she expresses herself. This show really upped ICB’s game a notch and they even added a musical element to it. I had tears of laughter during the show. Too much fun. The girls were amazing!

And finally, the latest show by ICB, “Improvised Tales with ICB”. Something new, something wonderful. The show was hilarious. Rohit was may favourite, again. Balasree, killed it with her amazing keyboard and musical skills. The musical element for this show was exceptional. The tales like taking a boring “fairy tale” suggestion from the audience and giving it a “desi twist” was brilliance and just hysterical. And as usual, these guys up their level every single time. I measure their shows by how much I cry laughing during their show, and this show, I cried the most.

I've been to all of ICB's shows since I came to know about. I enjoyed their shows then, and I continue to love and admire their work even now.

Can’t wait for the next one!
