Born into a musically dedicated family, Vidushi Shubha Mudgal has been trained by some of the finest musicians and musicologists in India: the eminent scholar-musician-composer Pandit Ramashreya Jha “Ramrang”, Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar. She later learnt stylistic techniques from well-known maestros Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit Kumar Gandharva. She also received training in thumri from Smt. Naina Devi and is thus a versatile and popular performer. Shubha ji has also won recognition as a composer.
Vid. Shubha Mudgal is the recipient of numerous awards including the Padma Shri from the Government of India in the year 2000, the Golden Plaque Award for Special Achievement in Music at the 34th Chicago International Film Festival, 1998, and the Yash Bharati Samman from the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2015.
Vid. Shubha Mudgal has also been closely involved with several projects in music education in India.
Formerly a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education (Government of India), Shubha ji also chaired a focus group discussing the need for introducing an arts education program in mainstream school education during the National Curriculum Framework 2005.
Shubha Mudgal was also a Nana Shirgaokar Visiting Research Professor for traditional music
at Goa University.
Vidushi Anupama Bhagwat
Smt. Anupama’s musical journey began in Bhilai where she commenced her inspirational musical tutelage with Acharya Bimalendu Mukherjee. Over two decades of a rigorous taalim in the guru-shishya parampara, she imbibed the intricacies of the Imdadkhani Gharana.
‘Surmani’ Anupama’s performances over the last twenty years have been lauded by connoisseurs for scintillating fast taans, mastery of the meditative alaap, and brilliant fluency of melody.
Anupama’s performances across the globe include Australia & NZ, Bahamas, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Hong Kong, UK, and USA. She has presented many jugalbandis with celebrated Carnatic and Hindustani artists, and in world music performances such as Global Rhythms and Shanti. She has conducted several workshops at universities, and conservatories worldwide.
Anupama is currently based in Bengaluru and conducts Sitar classes and workshops in addition to her concerts.
