Bandipur National Park is located in the Gundlupet taluq of Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka. The park is nestled in the midst of the magnificent Western Ghats and covers a sprawling area of about 874.2 sq km. The park was created as a private forest reserve by the Maharaja of Mysore Kingdom for his dynasty in 1931. The Maharaja christened the reserve as Venugopala Wildlife Park. In 1973, under the Project Tiger plan, 800 km2 more was added to the park to create a single tiger reserve known as the Bandipur Tiger Reserve. In 1974 the reserve was upgraded as a national park.

Today, the park along with Kerala's Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu's Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and Nagarhole National Park in the north, forms a single huge biosphere reserve, known as the 'Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve'. This reserve is believed to be the country's largest reserve.

The reserve is quite prominent for its Tiger and Asian elephant population. Other animals sighted are gaurs, porcupines, sloth bears, Indian rock pythons, black-knapped hare, four-horned antelope, chital, sambhar, panther, etc.Birds such as red-headed vulture, honey buzzard, Indian roller, changeable hawk-eagle, crested serpent eagle, etc can be frequently sighted here. Peafowls are quite prominent birds of the region.

It has a variety of floras such as Black Myrobalan, Flame of the Forest, Indigoberry, Golden Shower Tree, Teak, Giant clumping bamboo, Sandalwood, etc

The best way to enjoy monsoon is a visit to Sakleshpur. It was a very peaceful easy trek to Agini Gudda.. about 7 kms trek to and fro.. beautiful scenery.. awesome climate.. walking through the valley, slipping down.. great place for some amazing lovely pictures.. I would call it perfect climate!! Homestay was pretty decent, food was extremely delicious.. they have maintained separate kitchen for veg and non veg... Everything was arranged properly and was on time.. After finishing the trek we came back to homestay.. had some mouth watering lunch.. then headed towards the waterfall. We played mud volleyball...enjoyed to the fullest... then headed straight to the waterfall!! If was great fun ... clicking photographs, sitting under the waterfall rush for some natural massage ... it was truly amazing.. To our surprise we got to do rappeling.. it was a mind blowing experience... you don't get scared at all since you will be equipped with the safety harness.. Nadeem did an amazing job.. He encouraged everyone to participate in all activities.. kept everyone motivated.. The added advantage is that the whole team were super duper good.. By late evening we came back, took some hot shower... follwed by great tea/coffee and snacks. Then we set up a campfire, we enjoyed.. got a chance to know each other... played games.. yummy dinner and we hit the sack.Next day off to Manjarabad... A very beautiful fort... clicked as many pics, boomerang and videos as possible.. After fort back to Bangalore.. My overall experience was extremely adventurous and awesome!! Very happy with the service and activities organised. Thank-you escape to explore for arranging such a great trek.. a special thanks to Nadeem for making everything possible. Keep up the great job you are doing.. 100% recommended place!! Fun guaranteed!! Beware of leeches - by Poojitha for Sakleshpur Trek organized by Escape2explore .
One of the best way to spend your weekend if you are looking for short trek and crazy fun around Bangalore.Would call it chota packet bada dhamaka!!The pickup was on time... reaching the campsite our very famous Mubarak gave us an insite of the itenary. The campsite looked amazing.. just looks like as you want your weekend to start.. those tents, music, campfire and lights was just perfect.. it was organised for a different team though... we had been to campsite to freshen up, use washrooms(decent one), tea and biscuits , grab walking stick to help us climb up and use the same for campfire when we reach the peak..The 20mins drive into the nature to reach to base of the Narayangiri trek was simply awesome for me...that cool breeze, freesh pure air ti breathe.. zero traffic.. Its a small well maintained village..We trekked roughly for about close to an hour.. its an easy trek to the peak.. Upon reaching the peak, noticed a temple, witnessed the beauty of Ramanagara under the dark sparkled with street lights... we also get to see Savandurga mountain. What an amazing way to spend the whole night admist the beauty of nature.....all your stress just vanishes away admiring and waiting for the sunset... After the sunset, we descended down and reached back to campsite. Had a superlicious breakfast and tea before we leave for Manchinbele dam. I Was pretty excited as it was my first time Kayaking and swimming in a lake.. It was an amazing experience for me.. the campsite in Manchinbele was top notch.. infact we all wished we stayed back here to extend this fun.I must admit this place is already in my bucket list for another visit.I loved kayaking in the lake... jusy lost in the Beauty of nature..rowing slowly.. brought up a smile on my face as I type this. Must try is the dive from the rock into the cold lake... i bet would want to do this on repeat.. and you dont have to worry about safety.. as we alll have to compulsorily wear life jackets.. hence though you don't know swimming.. nothing to worry.. you will still have fun as you float since tje life jac9 doesn't let you drown.. we spent a good amount of time here.. just didn't want to leave.. but time doesn't stop.. yet took back fabulous memory back home... Overall experience was amazing, wonderful, beautiful etc.. And ofcourse not to forget this was all possible because of our super duper trek leads - ever green famous Nadeem, our favourite Mubarak... And two other budding trek leads.. all packed with good sense of humour.I 100% recommend this place!! Tips:-Make sure you carry sleeping bag(provided by the team) and enough warm clothes(from home ofcourse) to keep yourself warm while you wait for sunrise.Carry extra pair of clothes as you cannot stop yourself from getting into the water.Carry snacks, food.. you will need it as soon as you come out of the water.. That's it!! Happy kayaking and trekking!! - by Poojitha Prakash for Narayangiri Sunrise Trek with water activities organized by Escape2explore .
