Performer's Bio

Performer's Bio

Abhishek Desai – School leader, rank student, overall geek. Abhishek, after having graduated as a mechanical engineer from Ramiah went in search of the ' True meaning of life'. Instead he found improvisation. Despite his occasional flirting with the food industry, Abhishek and Improv have now been going strong for a year.

Rohit Nair - Being born in a South Indian middle class family which was extremely focused on education, Rohit ended up choosing Computer Engineering as a profession. Only then, to find his true passion hidden in stories! Rohit likes to play with the humor hidden in the truth, the truth of our everyday lives. Improvisation as an art, for him, allows combining story-telling with such humor. It gives him a great sense of purpose he says- Making people laugh, challenging inherent notions that are deep rooted within them and need to be seen with a different perspective. He has been improvising for over 2 years.

Nasir Engineer – Hailing from the metropolis of Mumbai, Nasir brings with him 5 years of improv experience to Bangalore. He is someone who will judge a book by its film. Besides improv, Nasir is most fondly remembered as the “guy who runs.”

Madhu Shukla – Madhu is a theatre based facilitator and a storyteller based out of Bangalore. After her post-graduation in acting from Ninasam , Shimoga and The National School of Drama, New Delhi in 2006 she has extensively explored how theatre can deepen self-awareness and further personal growth. She has been using applied theatre methods, to build collaborative thinking and delivering leadership skills development workshops in corporations and communities. As a storyteller, her hope is to awaken compassion and wisdom, through a joyful suspension of imagination and deep heartful listening, though her initiative By the River.

ShrirupaSengupta - Shriburst into the Comedy scene in 2014 winning the Bangalore Finals of the MICF Raw Heats. Based out of Kolkata and Bangalore depending on the time of the year and the mood of her parents, she performs in the genres of Improv, Stand Up and Concept Comedy Shows. With a joyfully chaotic personality, Shri when not on stage or in rehearsals can be found burning things in the kitchen / putting her TISS- MSW degree to use, writing content / trying to shape shift into a cat and doing other such high energy activities.

Vijay and George - Our musical journey started with the inspiration of western classical and pop music which we have been listening to for a long time. We try to fuse indian music with the western styles to create a new wave that will stand out from the usual sounds. In the journey, wegot a chance to work with Improv Comedy Bangalore (ICB) in their second season. It has given us a chance to work on a style that is so challenging and exciting. As the name says, Improv is all about improving on spot based on the suggestions taken from the audience. This challenges us to improve and play different genres and we try to challenge the Improvisors as well, with our own style. This way, we try to Improvourselves and also try to contribute Improv by giving our best.

It all started in April this year, when I first saw ICB perform at their show Mashprov. I was introduced to a new form of theatre and art form which I vaguely remembered from having seen a single episode of Whose Line is it Anyway. But this, this was real. There was Abhishek, the brilliant host (the best one in ICB) who did an amazing job in explaining this art form and the many acts of the show captivating us in the process. Lavanya, who just amazed me with her expressive acting and improv skills. Balasree, whose sarcasm and perfect timing added to the charm. Sneha, who just owned the game “New Choice” with her absurd, funny and interesting choices. Then there was Akhil, who just took it to the next level by playing some grumpy politician in a gameshow. I’ve never laughed so much before.
So began my love for ICB, and my love for improv. I had immense respect and admiration for every single person in ICB after seeing them perform. Over time, I met the other amazing artists of the group. Vaishnavi, who could slay you on stage without a sweat if needed. Aarti, who could get into any character with her own fun style (Loved the one where she and Nasir played grumpy parents with

Lavanya and Sahil as the kids in a game of “Story Story Die”).

But these were just the tip of the iceberg. Just when I thought this couldn’t get any better, I was introduced to two of the senior members of ICB, Rohit and Nasir.
The show was Improv Mayhem, also featuring an amazing Improv artist from japan, Christiane Brew. Although every single one of them performed really well, you could clearly see the magic that Rohit and Nasir had together when they performed. And that’s the show I became a big fan of Rohit.

Then came ICB’s next amazing ensemble, The Adamant Eve’s. The all-women improv group, featuring another great senior improviser from ICB, Madhu. She’s a true actor, you can see it in the way she expresses herself. This show really upped ICB’s game a notch and they even added a musical element to it. I had tears of laughter during the show. Too much fun. The girls were amazing!

And finally, the latest show by ICB, “Improvised Tales with ICB”. Something new, something wonderful. The show was hilarious. Rohit was may favourite, again. Balasree, killed it with her amazing keyboard and musical skills. The musical element for this show was exceptional. The tales like taking a boring “fairy tale” suggestion from the audience and giving it a “desi twist” was brilliance and just hysterical. And as usual, these guys up their level every single time. I measure their shows by how much I cry laughing during their show, and this show, I cried the most.

I've been to all of ICB's shows since I came to know about. I enjoyed their shows then, and I continue to love and admire their work even now.

Can’t wait for the next one!
