Pragati Maidan, situated at Mathura Road, is a vast exhibition centre of Delhi that serves as an important attraction of locals and visitors.
It is a huge complex of buildings, covering over 150 acres (0.61 km2) sprinkled with many lawns, overlooking the historic Purana Qila, which stands opposite Gate no 1. The complex houses many pavilions like the Nehru Pavilion, the Defense Pavilion, the Indira Pavilion, and the Son of India Pavilion. It has various building which are build in various shapes and sizes. It also has an auditorium where Rock shows and plays are held quite frequently. There is also an internal shuttle service for those who do not wish to walk. Pragati Maidan houses a movie theatre called Shakuntalam, quite popular among youngsters for its comparatively cheap tickets. 

It houses the headquarters of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), and hosts over 70 national and international exhibitions annually, with the largest being the India International Trade Fair which attracts over 10,000 exhibitors and over 30,00,000 visitors. Housing 16 halls in total, the place is known to host about 70 national and international conventions and exhibitions throughout the year. One of the most sought out events organised here is the Indian International Trade Fair (IITF), which also happens to be the largest event with an approximate footfall of about 10,000 exhibitors and around 30,00,000 visitors every year. World Book Fair and the Auto Expo are other prominent and popular events held here.

Attractions Near Pragati Maidan

Its easy to reach the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum situated on Bhairon Road at one corner of Pragati Maidan and also the National Science Centre is situated.

Purana Qila (or the Old Fort) one of the prominent attractions of Delhi and is located near Pragati Maidan. Apart from the sight of the impressive fort, there is a lake here with boating facilities for visitors. A sound and light show is held every evening to entertain the visitors.
