About Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer, famously known as the ‘Golden City’ located at a distance of serves as a perfect getaway from Delhi. This exotic city is located at the heart of Thar Desert and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Rajasthan. Standing on a ridge of yellow- tinctured sandstone, Jaisalmer is home to the several temples and the famous 12th century fort.

The surrounding Desert National Park offers opportunities to observe blackbucks, desert foxes and chinkaras amid the rolling dunes, rugged crags and waterholes.

Places to visit in Jaisalmer:

The Jaisalmer Fort also known by the name Sonar Quila (Golden Fort) is constructed in the classic style of the royals by local craftsmen. This fort is a world heritage site and The main attractions inside the fort are: Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain temples and the Laxminath temple.

Badal Mahal

The tower at this palace has been moulded the tower in the shape of a Tazia (a float that’s part of the procession of Muharram). Badal Mahal or the Cloud Palace is five-storeyed and each floor of the palace has an intricately carved balcony.

Gadisar Lake was constructed in the 14th century by Maharawal Gadsi Singh to meet the water needs of his arid lands. It is a major tourist attraction and pilgrimage center owing to many small temples and shrines constructed around it.

To spot the wildlife you can head out to the Desert National Park which displays the best of the Thar desert’s ecosystem. The Park is composed of varied landscapes like undulating sand dunes, jagged rocks, dense salt lake bottoms and inter-medial areas. Various species of animals such as black buck, chinkara and desert fox can be spotted in the Park.

The highly endangered Great Indian Bustard, one of the world's heaviest flying birds, can also be seen here. In winter, the park hosts an incredible variety of migratory raptors such Himalayan and Eurasian Griffon Vultures, Eastern Imperial Eagle, and the Saker Falcon.

Other tourist attractions in Jaisalmer include Bada Bagh, Kuldhara, Tanot Mata temple, Ramdevra temple, Jain temples, Patwon ki Haveli and others.
