Commissioned by Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, Siri Fort Auditorium is the biggest multi-stage auditorium in Delhi. The Auditorium is comprised of four internal sub-auditoriums which have a seating capacity of 1865, 396, 270 and 67 respectively. It was taken over by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Government of India in the year 1986 from the Directorate of Film Festivals. Located at the Asian Games Village, a posh location in South Delhi, the auditorium boasts of a private VIP lounge. Many prestigious events such as the National Film Festival, the Theatre Festival, and even festivals organized by private organizers are held at the Siri Fort Auditorium. It also hosts musical concerts and cultural performances.
The Siri Fort Auditorium is built at the historical area of Siri Fort, where Alauddin Khilji made a large settlement. Initially the first and the main auditorium was built by the Delhi Development Authority for the Asian Games 1982. As the Government took over the auditorium the subsequent three smaller auditoriums were built. Recently, in 2009 the auditorium underwent a complete renovation to give it a modern touch.
The Siri Fort Auditorium is available in two sessions; one is from 9 am to 3 pm and the other is from 4 pm to 10 pm. The Auditorium is closed on National Holidays. The charges of booking the auditoriums is subject to the auditorium and event. A security deposit of 50% needs to be paid along with the booking charges which will be returned to the organizer post the event.
