As part of our Windmills Oktoberfest, we present a limited edition lager and unique dishes from Bavaria, Germany. Schnitzel, derived from snitzel or sniz (slice) in short, is a dish that gained popularity after the Second World War. A slice of meat is thinned by pounding with a meat tenderizer, coated with flour, beaten eggs and bread crumbs, and fried. While Wiener Schnitzel or 'Schnitzel from Vienna' is traditionally made of veal and served with French fries, potato mash or wedge potatoes, we also have the popular Chicken Schnitzel for you.

Have you been to our Oktoberfest yet? It's on only till 21st Oct. Besides a limited-edition lager and classic Bavarian dishes, try delectable desserts like Baumkuchen. The cooking process is tedious as it is made on a spit by evenly brushing on thin layers of batter, then rotating the spit over the fire, allowing each layer to dry before pouring successive layers of batter, as many as 15 to 20! When the cake is removed and sliced, each layer is separated from the next by a golden line, resembling the annular growth rings on the cross-section of a tree. Hence the name baumkuchen or 'tree cake'. Share, like and comment if you loved the story and tag friends you'd love to bring along to Windmills.

Celebrate Oktoberfest at Windmills with our limited edition lager and a German menu. Pierogi are dumplings with a savoury filling inside unleavened dough that are cooked in boiling water or shallow fried, served with melted butter, sour cream, sauerkraut or fried onion topping. Typical fillings include potato, bacon, ground meat, cheese, chives and fruits. Popular in Slavic, Baltic and East European countries, pierogi were supposedly brought to Italy from China by Marco Polo, though some contend it originated in Kiev and was introduced in Poland by Saint Hyacinth. On July 13, 1238, when Saint Hyacinth visited Kocielec, a storm destroyed all crops and the saint asked everyone to pray. The next day, the crops magically revived and as a sign of gratitude, people made pierogi from those crops for Saint Hyacinth. There's even a local expression of surprise on the lines of 'Good Grief' and 'Holy Smokes' - "wity Jacek z pierogami!" (St. Hyacinth and his pierogi!).

Windmills Craftworks proudly presents Oktoberfest, for which we've customised a special menu and brewed a great German style lager. Sauerbraten, literally 'sour roast meat', is one of the national dishes of Germany. Some say it originated when Julius Caesar sent amphoras of beef marinated in wine over the Alps to the newly founded Roman colony of Cologne. Others attribute it to Charlemagne in 9th century AD who devised the recipe to use leftover roasted meat. This German pot roast can be made with beef, venison, lamb, mutton or pork, by marinating the meat for three to ten days in a mixture of vinegar or wine, juniper berries, herbs, spices and seasonings to tenderize it. The result is a tender, soft and juicy texture. Sauerbraten is traditionally served with typical side dishes like Rotkohl (red cabbage), Kndel (potato dumplings), Sptzle (egg and flour noodle) or boiled potatoes and of course, copious amounts of beer!

Prost! Our season special Oktoberfest Lager is now on tap. This original German festival beer is based on the Bavarian Maerzen. It offers a primarily malty profile, with heavy use of Vienna and Munich malts and is delicately balanced by the noble Mittlefruh hops sourced from the Hallertau region of Germany. The very specific bottom fermenting yeast used is sourced from one of the oldest and most respected breweries in Germany, Weihenstephaner. As all traditional lagers, this beer requires an extended conditioning process lasting over a month to bring about the distinct clean and crisp profile. Oktoberfest is only once a year, so get it while it lasts!

Though different versions of a coffee cocktail have long existed, Irish Coffee was invented by Chef Joe Sheridan at Foynes airport, County Limerick. One cold winter night of 1943, a Pan Am flying boat left Foynes for New York but after flying for several hours, had to return to Foynes due to bad weather. Sheridan spiked the coffee with Irish whiskey to warm up the tired passengers. In gratitude, one politely enquired if it was Brazilian coffee and Joe jokingly replied it was 'Irish coffee'! And thus, a legend was born. Hot coffee, Irish whiskey and brown sugar are stirred and topped with thick cream and drunk through it. Purists say the problem with Irish coffee is that it ruins three good drinks: whiskey, coffee and cream, but it is perhaps Ireland's most famous drink after Guinness. Tag a friend you would like to enjoy it with.

The Old Fashioned was fashioned sometime in the early 19th century, made by muddling sugar with bitters, adding bourbon or rye whiskey or brandy and a twist of citrus rind, traditionally served in a short, round, tumbler-like glass. By the 1860s, orange curaao, absinthe and other liqueurs were commonly added. When the original cocktail came back into vogue, it was called "Old-Fashioned," a term first used at Pendents, a gentlemen's club for founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky. The recipe was said to have been invented by a bartender at that club in honor of Colonel James E. Pepper, a prominent bourbon distiller, who popularized it at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York. In 2015, Louisville named the Old Fashioned as its official cocktail. Choose from our wide range of classic cocktails and have a sip of history.

An award-winning brewer from America, Jacob Don Angell was raised to make beer. With the worlds largest single brewery Coors in his Colorado backyard, JDs first stint at brewing came early at 12 when he helped his stepfather brew craft beer at home. After handling hazardous materials at Coors, scientific research and working with wildflower seeds to understand the intricacies of malted barley and hops, his fascination with equipment and processes saw him go from home brewing to pro. JD left his mark across USA Chuckanut Brewery in Bellingham, Washington (where he won few awards), White Labs yeast company in San Diego, California, Bootstrap Brewing in Niwot, Colorado (silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival), Texas and Oak Highlands Brewery, Dallas (more silver at the World Beer Cup) and Texas Ale Project. Always in search of new challenges, JD traveled halfway around the world to join Windmills Craftworks as Master Brewer. I don't make beer for myself. I make it for others. Have a beer with me and I will explain how four ingredients can change your life!, he says.
