About New Acropolis
New Acropolis is an international non-profit cultural association, having a philosophical, cultural and social approach. It was founded with the purpose of promoting the study of philosophy as a global means to integrate Science, Arts, Ethics and Metaphysics to achieve global human development. This vision is implemented through a broad range of programs that combine theoretical and practical education in different fields. Our objectives are founded upon classical philosophy, that is, a philosophy that is mainly practical and active, not only intellectual and theoretical. With members of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and social levels, NA emphasizes principles of union and mutual collaboration beyond cultural, social and religious differences.

THE AWAKENING TO A VOCATION

When we are young, we often don't know what we would like to become as we grow older. Kids usually dream of being firemen, policemen, adventurers or maybe "super-heroes". Those are dreams about what seem to be leading a meaningful life, with purpose.

Later we become more realistic and we put the dream aside. We try to stay open to opportunities, but in the end most of us are making a living off something which does not entirely match our youth dreams and aspirations.

But sometimes a real vocation is revealed, a need for something very specific. To aspire to be an artist is just one example of such a situation.

A vocation follows an Archetype, a need for an Ideal of essential value, such as Beauty, Justice, Good, Truth... To fulfill a vocation is the opportunity to live the need of the soul on a daily basis and it allows the one who does it to feel fully alive and not just to settle for surviving.

Never undermine someone else's search for their vocation, even if you don't understand it. Respect the dream of other people, and don't try to impose your own vision of the world on them. Always help the vocation to be realized. A dream becoming true reality is one of the best things that can happen to anyone in this world.

"What does philosophy really mean? When studying philosophy at university, one is taught about philosophers, their ideas, and the history of philosophy. But you do not really learn to be a philosopher. Even having a doctorate in philosophy doesnt mean that the person acts and lives in accordance with his knowledge.

Philosophy is not the accumulation of knowledge. Philosophy is the love of wisdom. And wisdom is the real heart of life; to know how to live in the right way. It is not something that you can learn to do if you dont have the need for it."
At 61, Pierre Poulain exudes an integral energy. His stance is erect, as if poised for action, his eyes curious and attentive, and his speech swift and voluble.

Did you know that there were people in the past who also lived in a world in crisis, and chose to do something in order to make the world a BETTER place?

We know them as Socrates, Buddha and Confucius, among others.

They achieved the impossible, and the secret? they were Philosophers!

Have you ever wondered if there is more to life than what the eyes can see? Do you feel like the world is trying to offer you temporary substitutes, that you don't really need? Can we know the truth? Is there an immortal soul? What makes you YOU? Are Freedom and Justice possible? Can we make the world a better place?

We want to discover the Mystery that is hidden in Life. The philosopher is the lover of wisdom, who asks the BIG questions and seeks to improve himself and society.

Join us this Wednesday March 28th, 7:30 pm for the introductory session to the Living Philosophy program.

Course begins on April 4th.

It explored the fundamental nature of happiness in accordance with Tibetan Buddhism. It gave the audience an opportunity to explore that state of inner being based on love, kindness and compassion. Is death the end of life or is it the beginning of a more meaningful one? A vast majority of the ancient traditions practised across many ancient civilizations in time and history reveals the continuing journey of the spirit after the physical death.
