SMALL STATES (SS)
Mayawatis proposal to split UP into 4 should be taken seriously. UPs population of 20 crore is more than the total of 4 major European Nations. Inequality in size of the States is creating political imbalance at the Centre. It is high time that a Commission is appointed to consider the idea of Small States (SS). BJP is for SS. Research shows that the 10 large States should be split into 30 smaller units, and the 5 metro cities should be declared as City States, as Delhi. This is essential for retaining the Countrys unity and integrity. Also, innumerable benefits would follow.
Language is the most powerful divider of peoples all over the world. Having more than one State, speaking the same language, will reduce linguistic passions being exploited by politicians. The Centre will become powerful for Governance and States for development. Centre-State and Interstate relationships will improve. Conflicts will be less. Belgaum dispute will be between North Karnataka and South Maharashtra and not between Marathis and Kannadigas. People will be closer to the government. Sub regional aspirations will be fulfilled. More towns and cities will develop. The federal structure would function more effectively. Its easy to manage SS. The City States have been developed by inputs of the whole nation. They will become Centers for National Integration, and not for dividing People.
SS cannot confront the Centre as they do now. Errant States can be disciplined by the Centre. At present the Centre is afraid of bigger States, who blackmail in coalition politics.
