About Bloom & Grow

A creative space dedicated towards artists, creative enthusiasts and aspiring artists to revive and start their journey in art. True to its name this space provides the perfect environment to artists to share, learn, grow and bloom in their creativity. It’s primarily a venue where various professional artists in different fields of art & craft conducts workshops, classes and events that encourages creativity bloom through different mediums.

Carol Pinto, a former corporate executive, created this studio space in 2012 as she wanted to pursue her passion for art and craft. Initially it was meant as a space for children to explore art beyond music and dance, and be an alternative learning space where different crafts were being taught and explored. Gradually the space became popular with crafters, artists and hobbyists to gather and collaborate on various workshops. They started conducting various classes and workshops for interested people.

Workshops, ranging from candle making, soap making to decoupage art and baking, are conducted here. Anything and everything art is propagated here, only limit is imagination and non-creative things. They have regular classes for anybody who is interested and over the age of six can attend the classes. Workshops are also held at regular intervals by professional artists. Apart from being a venue of workshops, this place also functions as a creative co-working space for artists. Bloom & Grow strives to create an ambiance that encourages and nurtures creativity.

Block printing and Dyeing with Natural dyes
Nature is full of colours, colours so beautiful and captivating that men from early times have tried to capture its ephemeral beauty to decorate themselves and their homes as colour seem to speak the very language of the soul.

Art of traditional block printing on to cotton cloth is thought to have existed in India for over 4500 years. Evidence of the Indian craftsman's unsurpassed skill with printed and dyed cotton cloth appears through out the history. They used complex techniques to achieve desired patterns, and they changed from place to place depending on the weather conditions and materials available. Each pattern, motif meant something and spoke of their identity.

The five hour workshop will introduce you to the basics of hand block printing and dyeing using natural materials available around you.It will cover the following :

- Understanding natural dyes and its properties

- Understanding block printing practices in India

- Identifying locally available materials

- Preparing the fabric for dyeing and mordanting

- Practice dyeing using two local materials

- How to extract colours and how to use them as dye and colour paste

- Techniques of block printing, practice printing and printing on scarf to take home

- Post treatment of fabric

You will be introduced to the locally available ingredients that can be used for dyeing at the workshop. We will be making samples using two ingredients Manjista and Katachu. Also you will get to carry Annato seeds and Palash flowers to try at home

You will take home printed scarf and dyed fabric samples along with a ready to start beginner kit.

Fee - Rs 3,000/- including all materials.

Lunch break of half an hour. Pls carry lunch or you can walk over for a bite from the many restaurants closeby.

Bottle cutting & Upcycling
Event Details:

What will we do: Upcycling/Recycling glass bottles, i.e., we will turn old neglected glass bottles into beautiful lamps that can adorn your home.

In this workshop, you will learn the art of bottle cutting and electrical how-to. Cutting a glass bottle is equally easy and difficult task. In order to achieve a perfectly smooth cut, we'll first score the bottle and then stress it. Second, youll decorate your cut bottles with our special decoration material. Finally, you will complete your lamp using the electrical fixtures.

What to bring: Your creative bent of mind. And of course a glass bottle (such as a wine bottle). We prefer that you bring 3-5 round bottles to cut because, as with any craft, the art of bottle cutting can be mastered with practice.
